Compusa is carrying the Q6600s at $290. I'm not sure what the steppings are.

That's pretty good price for a retail store. Tax is about same (or less) as paying shipping

Now go on in and get one in your hands and let us know if it says SLACR on the side of the box. :D

Yea, I got a store nearby so no shipping needed :)

I was going to check but they were out in the store when I went in.

Ok, it's true and $289 and I just got one :)

Sorry for the crappy pic, camera phone.

Microcenter in Houston got a new shipment of G0. They are going for $280

I wonder if Compusa's corporate management has developed a sense of business. The fact that this CPU is under $500 at Compusa impresses the hell out of me. The idea that its near e-tailer prices is unheard of.

LOL yeah I hear ya. However when the Comp USA was open in my area, they had a couple of AMD semprons for close to Newegg pricing. I would have paid tax in either case but it was like 5 bucks difference. That was not bad.

Don't know if they changed but I still like the idea they closed which is pretty much fine by me. It kinda sucks once in a once in a blue moon for that stupid "I forgot that piece" and once in awhile descent deal on something. I want to just pay my Comp USA card off and close the account. I really don't care for them after my TV buying experience. Love the TV hate the customer service I got. I digress.

Yeah, I actually went today to get the USB wireless adapter thumbstick for 2.99 after Rebate. First time I have bought anything from them in years. If you want an example, look at the prices of their GPU's and compare to Newegg.com's. Its highway robbery. $90 to open your PC case and see whats wrong, regardless of the problem?

Too bad they closed the stores near me. Actually, reno is still open. Cool. Roseville closed though...got a frys instead. So worthy trade.

Sorry to go off topic but by the time we get a Fry's in northeast or New Jersey specifically, it will probably suck like the CompUSAs. However it sounds like this Fry's is a good place to go however I didn't think thier on line site was that hot. Anyway, I saw three of them when I was out west and never got around to going in one. My buddy kept raving about how good it was to go there but our iternary did not allow us to have the time to go in. There was a Fry's about 10 minutes from the hotel when I was in Vegas. Something about table games kept me from going :)

Same here. I went on a cruise out of Galveston , TX and drove by the FRY's down there twice, hearing how great it was from my cousin each time.

I just got one yesterday at the CompUSA in Warwick, RI. It was 289.00 + tax and instant gratification!!!!!

I got it to replace an X6800. I have it currently running at 333x9 (2.99ghz) all at stock volatges and yes, it is a G0 stepping quad. This was quite a deal from a bm-type store!

Shawn

Supply and demand. Just because Intel is telling retailers to sell at 266 doesnt mean that they have to. NewEgg, CompUSA, etc. can sell them for 500 bucks if they want to.

Like I said, all the hype but a bunch of BS. NO STORE(S) anywhere is selling it for $266 even if they have hundreds in stock.

I find that kinda quite ironic. Going from a $1000 chip to a $300 chip and I wouldnt' really call that a good upgrade.

Intel sells those for 266 if you buy 1000 at a time, but if you are a retailer, you want to make some money right? i bet so.

That would make sense IF you bought 1000 for $266 each. But I'm definitly sure they got a better bargain if they bought 1000 of them.

Well, so far every retailer makes money off it because the G0 stepping are crazy overclockers while the temperatures is way more cooler than B3.

considering this chip was $1000 <6months ago. I think anything near the $300 mark is worth it. g0 or B3 stepping IMO

anyone who bitches about pricing is rediculous.

But yet again we have penryn coming Q4 07 hovering around 300-500$ on the different chips at that time

so personally I wouldnt bother upgrading now unless really needing quad.

My next cpu upgrade q4 07 ;)

From dual core @ 2.99ghz to quad core @ 2.99ghz is not an upgrade? Hmmm, thanks for the input. Besides, is it really still a $1000 cpu? Maybe on a few websites it is, but in reality it's not worth even half of that anymore.

Also, just as an FYI, here is the definition of irony, if which ironic is a derivitive of (from Dictionary.com):

The use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.

Calling an upgrade from a dual to a quad core, at the same clock speed ironic is not at all the correct use of the term. Just thought you should know.:)

I used ironic properly so try checking for more than 1 dictionary meaning. But nope, still not a worthy upgrade IMO. If I spend $1000 on the x6800, don't expect me to upgrade it to hte Q6600. There's not alot of thing that you will be taking advantage of the 4 cores at the moment in daily use.

Just back from COMPUSA @Norfolk, VA this afternoon

they have 1x B3 and 6x G0

all the G0's has the same fpo/batch L727A918

No, you didn't. Find me a definition that matches what you are trying to say then.

There. Just saying.

Also, just because there are not "alot of things" that will be taken advantage of by having a quad core does not mean that the processor is not an upgrade.

Now, you were saying? By definition, it is an upgrade. No, you were not using irony correctly. Stating your opinion, yes, but by doing only that does not make something ironic, it simply means you stated your opinion (which I really do respect, so please don't take from this that I don't).

The irony? It's buying $1000 card vs a $300 card and that the $300 card perform just as good or better. Or its like going from a $1000 to $300 instead of going from $1000 to $2000. I didn't say it wasn't an upgrade. I'm saying it's not much of an upgrade I would have done.

yeah I just saw. I was in the Columbia MD store last night and all the chips there were G0 steppings.
