I heard that Compusa has x800pro's that were really unmarked VIVOs so I scrounged up my savings and headed out to buy one today. They had 2 left, but one was already opened but never used because someone who ordered a Gateway wanted the wrong card. So I decide to give it a shot even though the restocking fee is 15% (which is $60!) for this $399 card.

The guy knew I wanted to mod it, but he said it wasn't a VIVO. Well we took it over to customer service and they opened it up, and lo and behold, it had the Rage Theatre Chip on the back with 1.6 ns Samsung ram. So I said I wanted to buy it, but since it didn't have the shrink wrap and it was not marked as a VIVO, I got it for the 399.99 plus 10% off! The total came to $389 with tax included.

I went to my office and installed it, flashed it to x800xt and have it running at a comfortable 500/540 scoring 11308 in 3dmark03. If you want an x800pro vivo you should definitely try Compusa.

Fry's in Fremont, CA received them. All other fry's might have it too.
 
I also got one of the VIVO cards today at Comp USA but I wasnt as lucky as others.

I flashed the card and everything went well. ATi Tool showed the card having the 16 pipelines but no matter what speeds I used, I was getting all kinds of artifacts in 3DM2K3 so I gave up.

I'll go to Comp USA tomorrow and try a different card. if that doesnt work, I'm gonna throw in the towel and get another 6800 GT.

the only reason why I even tried this was because so many people have had much success with this card and the whole BIOS flashing thing but I certainly am not one of those people.
 
i got my x800 pro from comp usa yesterday for $356 with tax :) (discount)
it said V/VO/D on the side label, meaning it was a vivo
i flashed it to an xt, running at stock xt speeds with no problems
12386 3dmark with a p4 2.6 @ 3.25 and only pc 2700 mem :(
I actualy ordered an xt on ebay for 600 dollars, but got my money back because the guy didnt have them in stock like he said he did. What a savings...
 
I got one of the VIVO cards at Comp USA yesterday and did the flash thing but the four extra pipelines didnt work too well.

so I went back today and got another card and it looks like this time it worked just fine. :)

That doesn't mean its a VIVO.......
 
i had the same prob oz
1st card had artifacts when i enabled all 16 pipes. i exchanged it today for a new one and got a winner. this one opened all 16pipelines w/ no artifacts and runs 520/560 with no problems :)

ummm, it just about does especially if the card comes from Comp USA cuz both of my x800s from Comp USA had the above writing on the box label also.
 
It still doesn't mean it's VIVO if it has that on the box. You can look all around the box and not find a single mention of video input anywhere, but open up the box and you will find the Rage Theatre chip on the back and a VIVO connector. I would only buy the cards made in June or early July. If your Comp USA has sold its orignal shipment, I wouldn't try my luck with that 15% restocking fee. Once again, it is a VIVO card in a regular x800pro box. No way to tell until you open it.

If you check the ATi website, they don't even make x800pro VIVO's and the manual inside has no mention of VIVO.
 
there is another way to tell if that doesnt do it for you
on the Contents on the side of the box it lists composite and s-video cables, hdtv out cable. I beleive that the regular pro's dont have composite cables, i might be wrong, but i *think* that is something to look for
Oh and the batch number is also 630430
the first 6 digits of the serial, if you can find the same batch number, it will be a vivo

both of my VIVO card's boxes said "V/VO/D" right on the side.

check the temp on the overdrive panel. mine wouldnt run any 3d applications with the stock cooler, with an artic silencer the old version i could run, at 520 the gpu 510 the memory, with water cooling she is running now @560 on the core and the memory goes to 567

All x800 pros have that . It just indicates it has video out capabilities.....I wouldn't go by that if
i were you...
Edit: BTW V/VO/D just means (V)ga out/ (V)ideo (O)ut/ (D)vi....
A VIVO is listed as V/VIVO/D

*on a side note*

so I guess this does mean that buying one of these cards and hoping its a VIVO is a definate crapshoot.

that being that, I suggest people get their butts to Comp USA and grab one of these cards before they're all gone.
 
Those that have working cards -- does the card have handwritten numbers near the molex connector?

someone posted a linky on the big thread at the Rage3D forums but all you need to look for is a card thats got a yellow connector under the power connector.
