Hello all,

So im looking for a compromise between a gentle typhoon and delta/panaflo/san ace.

It seems that the 38mm fans all make that ticking noise when undervolted and that would just drive me up the wall. and at full bore... well im pretty sure id tear my hair out. Im not a noise slob but 80db? thats ridiculous.

Radiator that i plan to run is either a GTX or a BIX, both which are high fpi and love high rpm/cfm fans.

So if theres no compromise im thinking of running push pull w/ the highest rpm gentle typhoon there is and just dealling with it.

Any suggestions?

well you could get the kaze ultra in a 2000 rpm setup...

the Yate loons are great for the money

San ace 38mm fans don't click when undervolted. I have both the 109R1212H101 and 9G1212H101 and neither click all the way down to their minimum voltage.

IME the 109R (discontinued) have the smoothest sound profile, Panaflo's will click, and the new San Ace 9G (109R successor) has a bit of a growl, but definitely not a click or rattle like the Panaflo.

I'm selling some San Ace 9G's if you're interested :), two are brand new that I filled the oil reservoirs of and put 3pin connectors on.

i havent heard good things about Kaze in general and id rather take the 200 rpm hit and go with the gentle typhoons? i might be wrong however.

Can the san ace's match the gentle typhoon with cfm/ noise? like for the same DB it will match it in cfm output?

Easily. I switched from Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm fans to San Aces. I get the same airflow at lower rpms with higher static pressure. I'm never going back (unless space prohibits 38mm fans). I turn all my fans down to levels where I can't hear their motors at all.

what about delta? i just dont want any odd mechanical noises at low rpm's

Coolermaster Blademaster fans push surprisingly high static pressure. You could undervolt them slightly. I think they are sleeve-bearing, however.

http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling/724577-well-dressed-megahalems-65-fans-112-a.html - Here is ehume's megahalem's fan test in which the Blademaster did quite well:

I use San Ace (I have 10 of them, most are unused) and Scythe GT AP-15 (9.5-11v) fans. I prefer the GTs.

Also: I feel that even my San Ace 109R fans "click" slightly when undervolted. It's a non-issue inside a case, but my gentle typhoons don't produce this noise. They are the smoothest fans I've encountered (though I'm led to believe that the Sanyo Silent series is perhaps better still).

Edit: And I would reconsider running a HIGH-FPI radiator if you're at all concerned about noise. That just doesn't make sense. XPSC RX, Thermochill, Swiftech, EK, and several other companies make viable options for lower RPM fans.
