Compression Fitting Size

Probably an easy question for the water cooling guru's. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on buying a water cooling kit after some long debates and discussions on alternatives with others.

The tubing size I'm going to roll with is 7/16" ID, and 5/8" OD. I'm pretty well sold on getting compression fittings for this as well, but I'm not 100% what size I should get. I was originally thinking 1/2" ID, and 5/8" OD was what I wanted... But if I get 5/8" OD I'm guessing the tubing will not fit "inside" the compression fitting so I'm thinking the correct compression fitting is 5/8" ID, and 3/4" OD... Is this correct?

Something else I'm interested in that I know I saw on a youtube video was quick disconnects that seal when you unplug the tubing. Are quick disconnects something worth going for? And if so does anyone have any recommendations, as well as what size I should go for considering the size tubing I'm looking at?

I just did some more research/digging and saw on some forums they say compression fittings need to be the exact same size as the size tubing you're using... Just want to throw that out there for anyone that may have the same issue.

Yes, compressions are supposed to be the exact same size as the tubing you will be using. No bigger, no smaller. Different sizes will cause problems.

As Tsumi said, compression fittings definitely need to be the exact same size as the tubing - both ID and OD.

Regarding QD fittings, the only ones I know of for sure are made by Koolance. There might be other brands, too, though. They're only worth getting if you think they are. Kind of a stupid answer, but they're for convenience - nothing else. So if the convenience is worth the extra cost, then they're worth it! :p

Thank both of you for confirming what I found on compression fittings.

As for the QD fittings, not a stupid answer. I know exactly what you're saying. I decided against them for now and just got some compression fittings... I wound up not thinking I'd need the quick release, just as you said. ;)

I wish I had more QD's as it makes removal of parts very easy, espcially multiple GPU's and adding a drain into the loop is a breeze!

Enjoy the cooling! I just recently switched over and well, now will never go back!
