hello chaps. i have a quick question for you all....

i have a slave drive (160gb maxtor) its what i keep all my pics movies ect... and its almost full. i noticed there is an option in the general section (when you right click your drive) to "compress drive to save disk space".
now i understand that this option speaks for its self, but what i need to know is exactly how does it compress my drive? the reason i ask is because i use the files from my slave drive alot and i thought, if i compress all the files / folders i may not be able to access them as easely as normaly do. im useing 116GB of a 160, how much space can i exspect so save?

any info on doing this prossess will be great.

cheers :)
