I just recieved my Dell 2407 and just wanted to share some early self comparisons. So far I really haven't had a chance to mess with it but I did get some screens of one of them most common questions when buying these monitors with the multiple inputs.

These were both taken at 720 resolution both on Fill. For some reason I cannot access the 1:1 option through VGA or aspect for that matter. Also I get different preset options through component then I do VGA. Component has options like Theater, Sports and picture where vga has Gaming, Desktop and multimedia(?).

Also I tried 1080p over component, was a no go. When in 1080i the screen shakes. 720p tends to be more stable but still feels like something is going on there. With VGA there's issues also. I get slight lines which streach vertically in 1080. Shooting down to 768 get's rid of the lines for the most part but I still think I can see them.

Anyways, like I said, I only fudge with it for a handful of minutes. I may be missing something. Well here's the pics. Same settings on the camera. Using a Canon SD700 IS

This thead makes me want to buy a 360.

edit: this is an older thread http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=973982&page=2 with a 2405FPW and X-Box 360 and to quote:

Sorry.. it's component, not composite. But I thought my 2405 handled component like crap since I have component cables for my Xbox, and I hooked it up once, and I had all these lines going through the screen and stuff. But... I guess I just needed some good cables!

And I turned 1:1 scaling on.. and the 2405 must be able to accept a 1080i signal properly because it fills the entire screen (except for the black bars)

Though I can see how people can think that component looks really crappy, after you tweak the monitor's settings you can get to something that looks playable; I had to tweak the settings for both component and VGA to get them to levels where they look what they "should" be. Component required more tweaking of the settings than with VGA which only needed to tweak the brightness and contrast levels to get to something really nice. If you want to watch HD content like HD-DVDs it's better over VGA, though I do notice that it was better than DVDs, over component it's not as nice.

I think component is good for games though the reds tend to bleed and seep out. I had my 360 over component (in fact that was the reason why I got the monitor: for component) and I didn't mind it over component. But when I got the HD-DVD drive (I'm in Australia so it isn't available yet so I imported it) I watched Constantine it looked good but not great, then tried VGA and now I'm not going back.

I also tried the 1920x1080 setting and to get rid of those nasty lines just turn the sharpness down to 30 and they will be gone. I dislike watching/playing content that's looks slightly distorted (i.e. 16:9 stretched to 16:10), you can notice in movies more because of the black bars that keep the aspect ratio. I always have the 360 set to 1280x720 because that is the optimized resolution for the 360 so the only time it needs to do any form of scaling is when I watch HD-DVDs and even at 1280x720 on this monitor HD-DVDs look great.
