Just started to look into doing this, I did not think it was possible without a transcoder. However, I just stumbled across this...

Anyone have any thoughts on this? It would be wonderful if it works! I dont have the money for 720p set rignt now (although im aiming for a 32" model in the future) and would like to play the next gen/360 consoles in the HD resos they support...

At this, I downloaded the manual for my monitor, the Viewsonic Vp171b-2 ( http://viewsonic.com/pdf/userguides/vp171-1_ug_eng.pdf ) , which is an HDTV monitor and supports 480p/720p, but only has VGA (two) and DVI inputs. On input signal, it says:Note: The Device to which the "VGA" connector is connected, needs to support Component video(which is actually "sync on Y", Y-Pr-Pb)or "sync-on-green" for this type of cable to work. Check your Plasma, Projector or HDTV manual, otherwise your picture won't sync! In this case you need a "transcoder".
Which leads me to believe that this inexpensive cable will allow me to run HD content from my standard Home Theater components into the monitor, which would be great.RGB analog (0.7/1.0 Vp-p, 75 ohms)
Composite Sync, Separate Sync, Sync on Green
TMDS Digital (100ohms)
