Completely USB wireless KB and Mouse?

Ok so I have a problem. One of the departments we support at work recently made the ingenius decision to buy the OptiPlex GX280, which is about halfway legacy-free. This means there are no PS/2 ports on the machine. Now all the faculty are whining about how they have no wireless mice anymore. I know Logitech USED to make a completely USB wireless KB and mouse combo, but all I can find now is a mixture of PS/2 and USB. Anyone know of a completely USB KB and mouse setup?

PS - Microsoft Ergo-style is preferred.

What is wrong with getting ps/2 -> usb converters? That seems cheaper than getting all new keyboard/mouse setups.

I've never owned one, but I would be willing to bet they work with only the USB cord plugged in. Just my opinion.

Completely USB wireless keyboard and mouse?

If that's what you're looking for, I have the Logitech Cordless MX Duo which comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse (with a charger for the mouse), and the receiver goes onto the computer with a USB connection. It also came with a USB to PS/2 Adapter if you needed that. I got all that from Sam's Club for about $30 if that is what you're looking for.

see the ps/2 for the mouse?

Well I will say that's pretty stupid to have the keyboard be usb or ps/2 but then have the mouse only ps/2. What's the point logitech?

Is there any reason you can't use these?

yeah....that would be a problem wouldn't it.

it boggles my mind how some of those design engineers ever graduated college. They must have focused on the books and completely left out the common sense.

we got a bunch of compaq's in at my office a while back and they're a similar setup. USB mouse but ps/2 keyboard....yet they come with 6 usb ports on the back and 2 in the front! And don't try to get one replaced. Compaq tried arguing with me that the mouse shipped with those systems were ps/2 also.

sorry...got off on a tangent there. have you tried it with just the usb cable plugged in? just out of curiosity.

Thay work on USB only. That is for if you dont have USB. It comes with a USB->Ps2 adapter for the KB, then the little green one is for plugging mouse into PS2. You dont have to use them. I run USB only on mine and the green PS2 cord dangles there.

That's not the MX Duo. . . what are you talking about?

The MX duo does not in any way shape or form use or require PS/2. Nor does the MX700 mouse by itself if that's what you're looking for.

that is the mx duo

that may not be the MX Duo, but it is made the same way.

http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage...24-06.jpg/23-126-124-03.JPG/23-126-124-05.JPG for a shot of the MX Duo. I have it at home. And even though you can just get an adapter, it does not come with one for the mouse.

If it's made the same way, then I can guarantee neither "requires" PS/2. I have been using the 700/MX Duo for over a year, and have never used the PS/2 plug or adapter. The USB end plugs a single cable into the USB port which handles everything -- it links to the receiver, not to the mouse and keyboard individually. The conclusion I draw from that is that, if you don't have USB and want wirelss, you have to hook them both up.

I think you and I are in agreement. . . for clarification, the link he gave was:

Which is not the MX duo (even though he was replying to a post suggesting the MX Duo) -- hence my comment.

My MX Duo does have PS/2 connector for the mouse, but I don't have it hooked up to my computer and my wireless mouse is running perfectly without it.

Several of the MS combos run the mouse and keyboard off a single USB port as well. Great for SFF systems that may not have many ports.

I have used those PS/2 -> USB adapters shown above and they have worked perfectly fine for me in the past. If they already have KB's and Mice that they like, why make them change. That's just more gripes for you to deal with.

Uhm you can order a PS/2 Adapter with the GX280s for 8$, problem solved.
