Not much of a mod, but man, this is cool as get out. 8 CDs duplicaotr in 90 seconds. It takes longer to load all 8 trays than it does for the burning.

Interesting. I was having a discussion with my band today about whether I could build something like that for duplicating our CDs. I might have to look into it.
 
Tips for building a duplicator:

When building one with more than 8 drives, use 2 power supplies.
Use some extra case fans, cause those drives get hot! Especially since they are all sandwiched together, and all running at the same time.
Buy lots power supply Y-cables, cause you'll need em!
If not using Y-cables, get yourself some 90° molex connectors.
 
That case is just awesome, if that wasen't for legal services microsoft would be on your ass lol.
 
where did you get the controller? and is there any other way to do it without a controller? do they not make cheaper programs that could?
 
UT-Jackal. I don't know about cheap programs, but I do know Nero can use multiple burners.

NERO can use multiple burners, but you can't copy copy-protected CDs with it. With this controller, if the CD is round, you can copy it.

Also. NERO requires a motherboard, CPU, RAM, video, monitor, keyboard, mouse, hard drive, etc...

The controller requires CD burners, a CDROM, a PSU, and a case. That's it.

Yeah but the last two CD duplicators that I had at work sucked and had loads of problems. The first one died within a year. :mad:
 
Dude, that is JUST what our church needs! OK, I found that duplicator for sale, but I have a few questions first:

1 - How big of a PSU does it need?
2 - Is it expandable? Like, can I just start out with connecting 2 drives at first and then add more as we need them?
 
I would use a 400W or higher. Remember, there is no motherboard, hard drive, or other fans to draw the current away from the CD burners.

You can get different capacity controllers. You can use up to as many of the channels as the controller allows.

Can you like, get an 8 banger, but only install 2 to begin with and add more as they are needed?
 
Absolutely. The controller comes with all the IDE cables you'd need to fill the ports on the controller.
 
Serious question, Sarver: what is that controller? Can I just search Google for "CD duplicator controller" or something like that? My wife could certainly use a similar set-up, maybe just four at a time, though.
 
Any links to where we can buy controllers like this? maybe even smaller, say 2-3 roms? I'd love to make one, ofcourse of legal publishing.

bit expensive tho... is it really that pricy to make them?
 
Very cool, that'd be nice to have to burn eps instead of one at a time on multiple machines. Esp. since we only charge 2 bucks for our band's cds.

Can the dvd controller copy cds as well? Or does it have to be one or the other?
And just curious, do you have ties with that website? Cause it's selling that controller for 8 drives for $260something, and thats standalone without case and drives (and you said you built that system for just under $200). That seems a bit steep.

I think what he was saying was the controller is under $200.00..... which doesn't sound out of line for a controller that supports 8 target drives.
 
Lets answer some questions....

The DVD duplicator controller can do DVDs and CDs, whichever you want.
The CD duplicator controller can only do CDs.
You don't have to use all the destintion drives at once. You can do a 1-1 copy on a machine that has 8 destinations if you wanted to.
The website is my, so yes, I have ties with them.
There's a small problem with the "fully assembled" duplicators on my site right now. FOr soem reason it won't allow you to add a quantity of drives as your destination. Even if you choose 7 drives, it only adds 1. I'm working on getting that fixed.
The cases are very cheap compared to anywhere else I've looked for stand-alone SCSI cases.
I am also planning to add 100% acrylic cases for the duplicators, and they'll be able the same proce.
 
That particular duplicator is built in a standard ATX case. We did that simply because of cost. Other duplicators are built with a SCSI case, which is more expensize, but much smaller.

Besides, when the door is on, you can't see any of that anyways.
