I guess the case has a "door" that opens and closes when the optical drive "ejects". Can you describe what you did to get a drive mounted in the case, and whether you use that door, just have an alternate faceplate, or what?

The original drive that was in the G5 is just a standard drive with a modified door-cover-thingy (the small plate that attaches to the front of the drawer, not the faceplate).

I just took the cover off my drawer, and it works fine. The tray automatically opens the sliding door. It's pretty slick. You don't have to do any modifications to the drive to fit it in. In fact, you can even use screws as "feet" to lock into the mounting latches instead of the actual apple "feet". I switched the real ones in my g5 at work for screws a while back. Less vibration this way :D

How do you press the button on the drive to open it?

you accually have to go to my computer and eject the CD rom with that, but the looks and cool factor makes really doesn't make the "hassel" if you can even call it that, worth it.

There are a few utilities that reside in the system tray and will eject the cd-rom with a click. I found one that will do it with a key combination, but it was like $15 i think. I just eject like feeble said, or sometimes I slide the door down manually, and squish my finger in and press the button. Extremely high-tech :D

I wonder if it's possible for us non-G5 owners to mod our own "sliding door thingie?" ;)
(Read: need more pics of the entire thing.)
 
It doesn't look like that difficult of a device. It could be done.
