Ok, I'm a noob.
A complete newb.
My question is, I've never OC'd, but I'd like to.
My specs:
XP 1600+
K7S5A mobo
FX 5200
512mb 2100 ddr
5 - 80mm fans(generic led)
stock cpu cooler
BIOS temperatures: (Motherboard monitor wouldn't work for me)
idle - 30C
CPU - 40C
Nothing else, except that I will upgrade in 2 months, & I received everything as gifts, so I know they aren't too good.
Anyway, should I overclock, as a complete & total n00b, or wait for my upgrade, which I wouldn't OC.
And if I should OC, how far should I go?

To be brutaly honist. You've not really the stuff to overclock with any effective or safty. Get a nice heat sink a SK-800A or better should do it with a nice 80mm fan 40CFM or higher. SiS chipsets have never proven to be great for OC. Get a new heatsink with some ArticSilver5 on it. And you should be able to get something. Shame you don't have a 1700 (They overclock freakishly well).

Good luck. Keep reading threw the threads for information.

To answer your question. Don't untill you got a better HSF setup.

BTW, when you get around to OC'ing, if soon, the AthlonXP-Ms are multiplier unlocked, and cheap as hell.

Also, if that 1600+ is a Palomino core - find out using CPU-Z - it is probably not going to be worth turning it into a space heater for the small gains you'll receive by it. If its a Thoroughbred-B, on the other hand, it may be worth a shot, though your chipset and PC2100 RAM are most likely going to prevent anything worth writing home about.
