I'm gonna totally re-build a lot of the stuff in the system in my sig. Also i plan to overclock like mad. I have never done watercooling but i have read alot. and maybe not the smartest thing to do im gonna jump right into a TEC and watercool the TEC. I have read alot and i know i need to do something about condensation (especially where i live.) Any ways these are the parts i plan to use in my setup, any better recommendations are welcome. I plan to use 1/2 in. through out the whole thing.

Things i dont know ( prepare for along list  )

-I want to get a new Radeon 9800XT but I'm wondering which one. Like does one have a better reputation for being more overclockable then another? And which is easiest to remove the HSF.

-What type of tubing and fittings do you guys/girls reccommend and where can i get them?

-I know it is proably a no but can i run 3 cdrom's 4 hdd's a radeon 9800xt, a gig of ram 6 led fans , and 2-4 Cathrodes and my tec's from my antec 480 true blue? if not would this be a good AUX PSU

-Is it even close to possible to fit all this INSIDE the case I'm going to use the Aspire superalien

-As far as over clocking which memory would you guys use

I'll first off feild the question about the XT.

As far as I'm aware, all the coolers are going to be just as easy to remove as the next.....because every 9800XT I've seen so far has been basically built off of the reference design that ATI set out.....with Asus being the only exception. For the most part I'd stay away from the Asus 9800XT, unless you really need the VIVO. The cards dual fan cooling is inferior to the reference design and I've seen that the voltage on the core is actually a little lower on teh Asus card, to help control temps with those little fans.

I'm perfectly happy with my BBA 9800XT. It does 442/810 on stock cooling to problem but I'm ditching stock VERY soon for the Giant III.....which is going to help out immensly.

With a water/TEC setup on the card you're going to be very pleased with the overclock potential this card has. Do youself a favor and get the built by ATI card.....there's nothing wrong with vanilla. ;) :D

Thanx i wasn't sure about the mounting of ATI stuff. I didn't want to pull a put it in the freezer type thing if i didn't have to.

1. what cornelious said.

2. just use fittings that come with the blocks/pump. if you need other fittings get them at lowes or home depot. use hose clamps (plastic or metal - doesn't matter, just be careful with the metal ones)

3. DEFINITELY a no. you couldn't run the cpu pelt alone off of a psu like that. that AUX psu should be fine. if it can't run the gpu pelt as well as the cpu pelt, the gpu pelt can be run off the main psu.

4. it will probably fit with some cutting. i'd recommend a bigger case, though.

5. corsair xms. less likely to be 'binned' for running ONLY 250 or whatever fsb. though for xtreme overclocking some bh-5 + voltmodding or some pc4400 would do better.

i would also highly recommend a bigger pump and a larger (2x120) radiator (or two) as those pelts will put off a LOT of heat. especially once they start working hard, so that lone 120 radiator will be killed. might even melt. (not likely though) the bigger pump is necessary to maintain the flow rates through the larger radiators.

bar-rez things are also prone to leakage, so leak test well before you run it.

good luck!

o yeah: don't buy the asus card, i've heard they undervolt it to make it run cooler. so it needs a voltmod to oc as well as a stock 9800XT. other than that, just about any XT should be fine. sapphire's 9800PRO 256mb DDRII is reported to be a rebadged/cheaper 9800XT (meaning r360 core) so that may be a good buy.

And the cookie goes to...........................rogue_jedi!

When reffering to RAM what does binned mean?

Wow i guess a bigger radiator would be better any suggestions? or pump suggestions to? the 6 case fans won't make up for the smaller rad huh o well

Yeah i think i might have heard that about bay-res before I will proably run it for 48 hours or more out side the case first.

thanx

'binning' is when manufacturers take ram and then see how fast it can run while remaining stable, then sell it at the highest speed. you are more likely to get maxed out memory with OCZ than with corsair, because corsair is a bigger comapny (at least that is my understanding of it) though i do have some ocz pc3200 that will run p4000 3-4-4-8... guess i got lucky:D

bigger rad: black ice II or extreme or something like that. swiftech makes a 2x120 rad as well. a heatercore may be nice too (i think 2fresh is selling some 2x120 rads here. contact him if you want one of his) the 6x fans will help with case temps, but the single 120mm rad just isn't big enough/doesn't have enough surface area to disapate that much heat (i know i forgot a letter or two there, just can't figure out wich ones)

thanks for the cookie:D i was getting hungry:p

edit: pump - this one should be good.

Well i like that pump it is nice and small. But, how man GPH is it i couldn't figure it out on dangerden's site. Damn thats gonna be a big rad i wonder where i should put it?? Man i think i might need a bigger PSU so far it looks like this is what im gonna put on it.

3.0c @ around 3.8(hopefully)
1 gig of DDR500 in dual channel
Radeon 9800XT OC'd
MCW50-T - GPU TEC
4 HDD's
DVD-RW and combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW\
6 LED 80mm fans
2-4 Cathrodes
Water Pump
Rheobus
(2) 120MM fans
Can my 480 antec carry all that?

How are you planning on cooling the CPU??? A standard water block??? I wouldn't really want to run all that off a standard 480W PSU. Although the Truepower's are very nice.....I'd still feel more comfortable having a seperate power supply for the TEC. Other then that, yes.....everything else will be fine on the PSU.

the pump gph is an unknown to me as well, but i believe it has really good pressure and that's what you're going to be needing.

the psu should be fine, but as i said the gpu tec should go on the dedicated psu along with the cpu tec if possible.

the rad could probably go in the top of the case, should fit fine there (above the 5 1/4 bays) look at the watercooled systems thread for ideas. you should get some good ones you can use.

This is my general concensus as well.....throwing the TEC's on their own PSU would be the only real PRACTICLE option here, but the rest of the system will fit nicely on that Antec. I also suggest mounting the rad on the top of the inside of the case.....moving it out of the way of most everything else in your box. Which is a good thing. ;)

Well what if that pump has really bad flow rates won't it kill alot of cooling performace?

How do i find out if the AUX PSU i picked out can handle both tec's?

I proably will mount it up there but what im thinking is how the hell do you mount it up there?

Considering that PSU is rated at about 320W, the cpu TEC is a 226W, and the video card TEC is 115W.....I probly wouldn't chance it.

I might feel a little better just getting a 80W pelt for the video card and putting them both on the PSU.....or.....getting a 600W PSU for your system and putting the GPU pelt on THAT.

It's obviously your call though, let us know what you decide on or if you come up with more questions.

can i run them both at slightly less then those wattages? the case im getting comes w/ a 500 watt PSU but it is not a big name so i dunno. I might find a diff AUX PSU w/ higher wattage.

only questions i have left are...

How do i mount the rad up top?

and how do i get ac power to the AUX PSU? i saw 2 wires coming off it going to who knows what.

I wouldn't think twice about depending on a no-name PSU of sorts to handle my high end system AND a TEC setup.....bad idea. Go for a PC Power and Cooling, Fortron, or Antec power supply if you're thinking of running say.....one of the pelts off it, along with your system.

Generic PSU = VERY bad idea

I installed my Antec True Control 550 yesterday and damn my rails is kickin' f00! :D Newegg (#1 btw) has them for $100.00, $17.00 more than the true 480 and had it sitting @ my front door on the 3rd morning. I highly recommend it so far. It is as quiet or quieter than my Antec Smart Power (quiet version) 350w too.

The Swiftech MCW50-T.

I was going to order that one too, but decided to order the DD Maze 4 (GPU) and here's why:
In testing the performance is pretty much even unless splitting hairs. The DD looks to be easier to install. The DD isn't direct-die like Swiftech, so if you wanted - you can use it without the TEC no problemo.
That's why I chose it, because later when enough isn't enough anymore I can throw on the pelt easily.

The 9800 - If it were me - (and it was not long ago ;) )
I would skip the XT and get the Pro. I would also get the Hercules 3D Prophet 9800 Pro because:
It overclocks well.
(It looks better) ok not really a good reason but hey lol
Main reason, it comes with a nice set of memory sinks and a core heatsink on the back though if using the TEC I guess that would be yanked.
The XT is a great card but so is the 9700 and especially the 9800 Pro.

Good point throughout dude.

One reason I have kind of shied away from Swiftech is 'cus there shit uses 1/2" OD tubing by default. I don't feel comfortable having to use little adapters just to get the right tubing I want....that's just more opportunities for something to go wrong. ;)

I'd personally go with a DD TEC setup but that's just me.....I know people that would die by their Swiftech shtuff and that's great too. It is YOUR setup after all. ;)

I will proably get the XT anyway b/c this is kind of a money doesnt matter adventure. and considering i have 6k to kill 100's on a a vid card is pokect change. Althought i might wait for new silcon from nvidia or ati when is the next round due?

Ohh and im still wondering how people mount rads in the top of their cases.

If you've got that kind of cash to blow I'd highly suggest waiting until the nv40 and r420 are out.

The best way to get the rad mounted to the top of the case (using a single fan rad as an example) is to have an exhaust fan sucking air off the rad, and have the fan simply screwed to the top of the case.

It really isn't that hard when you think about, it's all about being creative.

cut 120mm holes in the proper places in the top of the case, drill the mounting holes for the fans, then mount the fans to the rad and the fans to the case (so the rad is hanging from the fans, and the fans are hanging from the case)

for better performance, put 2x120mm fans on both sides of the radiator, in a push-pull configuration exhausting air out of the top of the case. the only problem with this method is it takes about an inch more space with the fans on the bottom as well as the top.

mounting a radiator in the top takes about 1"/fan layer and 1.5" or so for the radiator. you'll lose your top two or three 5 1/4 bays by doing this, but you'd still have 2-3 with that case. (that's enough, right?)

Well 6k is nothing if you want to look at it that way. Question is, why spend an extra 250-300 for a XT when performance gain is so marginal? Plus a big part of that cost is the huge sink covering all the memory - that you will have to yank to fit a TEC. That's just stupid if you ask me. (And you did) Throwing away a couple hundred here, couple hundred there on hardware and you'll be kicking your ass when you suddenly realize that "6k to kill" is gone.

If money or logic truly is just no object to you and the money is burning a hole in your pocket, why ask anyone anything?
Just GOOGLE "best video card - fuck price" "best processor - money no object" "best cooling kit - help me blow my money" and then buy whatever cost the most.

You say money to kill (waste) but you want to skimp on one of the most important parts of a system. The PSU. What are you asking again?

Why TEC btw? If I had to throw away as much money as I could (and yeah I've blown my share btw) - $6,000.00 being pocket change after I wiped my ass with a few fiddy's I would stop wasting time and just get two phase-change coolers (CPU & GPU) A TEC watercooled chipset rig and a separate loop for my RAM, HDD's (6x 74G Raptors) & Southbridge. You should have some left over for pizza and UT2k4.

Now now, be nice. ;)

Umm, I know that you're kind of over-exagerating here but you do still have a point. If I had that kind of money to blow on a new comp.....I'd be looking at nothing less then a Prommy..........and then a seperate water/TEC loop just for the video card.

We all have our different "dream systems" but there are some things that should be fairly common knowledge.

Take your cooling and power just as seriously as you woudl the rest of the system or you'll just end up dissapointed in the end anyways.

DAMN you are one mean mother fucker lol

but, for my own entertainment I'll answer your comments/questions

- How is a 480WATT Antec PSU Please explain how that is skimping??

-I don't wish to waste money but i was saying i have the money for TOP OF THE LINE performance and I was saying IMO i will get that w/ an XT.

-Yeah i could drop some cash on a prometa but why the hell do that? I'm all about DIY. And since i dont know how to build a phase change cooler i'll go w/ what i think I can do.

I think I'm gonna need all my 5 1/4 bays

-Bayres
-Rehobus
-DVD-RW
-CD-RW
-AUX PSU

Maybe I can mount the Rad on top (outside of the case)of the case unless some one has better idea....

mounting it on the top of the case works ok, just be careful with it if you move the computer often. also, you should make sure to get a shroud the same color as your case. just because;)

make sure it has room to 'breathe' underneath it as well.

Good advice.

Alright I will attempt to mount it up top. I dont know if the 80mm exhaust will get in the way or not thoe hmm. I suppose ill be cutting around it. Should i blow the air out the case while sucking it from in or reverse?

just replace the 80mm exhaust with the radiator exhaust. should be fine.

also you don't have enough space to cut around the 80mm fan on there.
