Ok I have a C2D e6400 running on a EVGA 680i board using Corsair Dominator (TWIN2X2048-6400C4D ) RAM. Using a OCZ OCZ700GXSSLI Gamestream PowerSupply. Cooling is via a Collermaster Aquagate. Everything is running at stock voltages (acording to NVMonitor this is what they are using)
CPU @ 1.3375
RAM@ 1.85

I am able to get about a 8% OC (pushing the FSB to 280) . Anything above that and my machine just locks tight. What the heck am I doing wrong? Do I need to apply more voltage to RAM? CPU? Both? I am running at 280FSB w/ an 8X multiplier for 2240 clock speed. Any ideas on this would be wonderful. I am having no heat issues at all so I dont think it is my cooling just that I honestly have no idea what I am doing.

Once again any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need any other info please let meknow what you would like and I will try and give you the info

whats the speed ur memory is running at?
we need more than the info u gave us.

i.e. what's the freq the memory is running? what's the ratio? etc....

Set FSB and RAM to unlinked.

Disable C1E, Speedstep, Thermal Control and everything throttle / Spectrum related

Set your RAM to the advertised voltage and timings.

Set your FSB to 1400 (350) and your RAM to 700mhz (yes underclock, better for now 1:1 Ratio)

Set your CPU Voltage to 1.4V (Lower it later until it fails again)

Set your FSB Voltage to 1.3V

Other voltages leave as AUTO

Thanks guys will try this this evening when I get home from work and will let you know how it comes out. Orion thanks for the specifics I really appreciate it

I'd start in the basement and work your way up on voltages. I was able to set nearly every single one of my voltages to its lowest setting (with the exception of ram and cpu) and reached 3.2ghz easily. And I wouldn't leave any of those other settings to Auto. Set them to there minimums then bump them up if your having a little stability issue. Also I'd leave those ram timings loose until you have everything else dialed in. Then you can tweek those ram timings all you want. In otherwords take the ram out of the equation until your sure everything else is stable. Just make sure you watch those temps with Coretemp or whatever your favorite software is.

Ok so I did everything that Orion23 mentioned and am now running @ 2.8 w/ a 700Mhz RAM setting @1400FSB. Do I make baby steps from here or do I make another large jump? I am running F@H 24x7 on this and my temps (according to NVMonitor and CoreTemp are staying around 47C while folding SMP (This is pretty much about as full load as I am ever going to see). Would like to see this @ around 3.2 if possible just trying to make sure I understand this. I am running the RAM @ 2.1v @4-4-4-12 (stock settings) just at a lowered FSB. Am I better off staying with a 1:1 ratio and going 750RAM to 1600FSB (this is just the ratio that my math does not an actual #..tell me if my math is silly) or better to boost my RAM speed back up to 800 and losing the 1:1 ratio (or taking the CPU to 1800FSB to keep the ratio) My main reason for the OC is for folding. This thing at stock speeds with my SLI 8800s prety much lets me play whatever I want game wise as fast and as much eye candy as I want so this is just for folding speed purposes. Once again thanks for any help at all folks are willing to give

You can bring the FSB to 1600 and the ram to 800mhz for a full 1:1 ration (using your RAM's default speed)

@ this point you might need to bring the FSB voltage to 1.4V from 1.3V.

Memory voltage and timings can remain as advertised.

CPU voltage is whatever it needs. Again, try the same 1.4V and test it with Orthos or F@H.

If it passes, great, you have a good chip. If it fails, try adding a little more voltage. 1.45V is still safe.
