Budget computer,, came with integrated graphics. Wanted to add a GForce FX 5200 to a PCI slot. Got it up and running, but had a horrible time with it afterwards. My system got real unstable. Display would go black for a few seconds every ten minutes or so. Don't know what i did wrong. Dell's customer support is an abolute joke. Do any of you have any experience with adding a PCI card to an integrated graphics system that could give me some advice? I would be very appreciative.

Dell 2350; 2.2 P4; 1GB PC2100; 60 GB 7200 HD

You may want to disable the onboard graphics first, before you install your card. Also, you will need to set your bios (don't remember the setting) so that your PCI card is your primary adapter.

Hope this helps!

The PSUs in those 'el cheapo' Dell value computers are pretty sad as well.... it's possible that the addition of the new PCI card pushed it over the edge - have you added any other peripherals since you bought the computer?

So here's the wierd part. I tried to disable the onboard graphics. It wouldn't let me do that. I disabled the graphics in the device manager, then the PCI card wouldn't work. I tried the uninstall option, restarted the computer, and the found new hardware wizard came up. A couple minuted later, the damn integrated graphics are back up and running. This computer is a disaster!!!! Screw trying to save a couple bucks next time, it just leads to headaches in the end.

No I haven't. Matter of fact, i tried installing it a second time. I reformatted the HD, unplugged everything from the system, and re-installed Windows hoping that would give me a fresh start. Still no luck.

You'll need to disable the on-board graphics within the BIOS, not simply disabling it in windows.... make sure "Display First" is set to PCI.... and not "AGP" - meaning onboard AGP....
