I am looking at an x300 as a secondary video card to hook a TV up to my computer (S-Video). I want to make sure it will work with what I have before i blow a fortune on it.

Specs:
Win 7 x64
E6600
2GB Ram
4850
Asus P5K Vanilla
Hiper 580-R Power supply

I am just going to use it to project emulators and movies on to a TV.

I did something similar to this in the past where I added a PCI X1300 to my system that had 2x 4850 in crossfire.

The main issue is that the X300, like the X1300 I used, is limited to the ATI Legacy Driver, the last version of which is 10.2. At the same time different ATI cards don't really like to be installed in the same system using different drivers.

Simply installing the legacy driver and using that for your 4850 also would be the easiest option, but you would be stuck using drivers that are a year and a half or more old.

Your best bet to get the X300 working while using the latest drivers with your 4850 would be to install the 4850s first then put the X300 in and see if windows will install default drivers for it. Using the built-in drivers for the X300 (since it won't try to install a control panel, etc) shouldn't conflict with your 4850 using the newest drivers, but YMMV.

you should be able to use the built in WDM driver for the x300.
you can manually choose the drivers that windows uses.

if you want to play on the safe side but still keep costs down, get an nVidia card.
