Ok guys just got a 'new' Compaq EVO with a P4 2.8 in it. Been running BOINC on it and got speedfan up and running to see temps and idle it would be around 35C and it would climb to 62C!!! I took stock HS off and applied Cremique but it only dropped to 58 or so. Is this normal? I am a AMD guy by the way so these temps (to me) are outrageous.

2.8E or 2.8C? Sounds somewhat close to the original 2.8E's. Is it a stock Intel heatsink or did Compaq make an all Al or part Al, part Cu?

Is it a D530? The airflow and cooling in those suck pretty much. They're not intended for much more than business apps. It's not the processor, it's the case. I say mod it and make it run cooler.

I agree on the case probably being the culprit, many oem cases SUCK for airflow.

My condolences on purchasing a D530. They are pretty ghey...

I just disassembled one of them today and put four 80GB drives in it. (Dynamic-Disk RAID 5 goodness.) After I put the drives in, the entire case is HOT.

Actually its a D510. Don't know the difference. I didn't buy it. I am alittle bit more knowledgeable than that. I got it at work. Its better than the PIII I had before (I think).
