comp won't pass prime95 argh

I have my barton overclocked to 2.5GHz (12.5x200) @ 1.80v I ran prime95 test and there was an error in the first test. So I backed off to 2.4GHz (12x200) @ 1.72v ran prime95 and I get the same error. I tried 2.2GHz @ 1.60v (which passed the test when I was using KVR CL3 512mb) now it doesn't!?!

So I'm assuming the problem is the ram.

Its mushkin special 2-2-2 (2 x 512mb) I have it set at 2-2-2-11 @ 2.7v

everything seems fine but it fails to pass the prime95 torture test :confused:

could be your chip not wanting to overclock that high...or could be your memory..

Try this...first pass prime at stock speeds, with whatever the bios dects for memory timings...then pass prime with the timings muskin says it will do, then start to overclcok your cpu....somewhere you will probely find what is holding you back..

if its your ram it may need up to 3.2v to run 2-2-2, and even ther it may not... (as if there is a real diffrence between 2-3-3-8 and 2-2-2-6, besides stability)


rile of thumb when overclokcing is allways overclock one peice at a time....so you not stuck where you are now...
 
hmm but I'm already running 2-2-2 @ 2.7v

and my mobo only goes up to 2.9v for ram
 
i run my ram at 1 1 1 1 now, it makes a shit load difference... i also run at 11x100 right now too.... lol (im serious about the 11x100... its time for bed, and i dont wanna wake up sweating.... tis at 34c right now, oh 1.31vcore :D :rolleyes: )

I've backed off my timings to stock 2-2-2-6 @ 2.7v still, the system wouldn't pass prime95. But I can see there is a trend. If I set it to "expert" using 2-2-2-6, the error in prime is 0.458905 for example and prime95 expects it to be less than 0.4
When I set it to "optimal" using 2-2-2-6, in prime95, it will give me a larger error. Eg: 0.5, where prime95 expects it to be less than 0.4

why dont you keep the voltage high when you lower the clock, you could be just below the vcore you need at each setting
 
try setting the timing to something like 2-3-3-8 and see if it passes prime95. if it does try lowering it to 2-3-3-6. if that passes lower them a little more.

it it doesn't pass at 2-3-3-8 then you know you've likely got your CPU clocked too high.

because Im following a graph which shows which voltage I should set for the corresponding frequency

Uh, is that graph made for that specific chunk of the wafer it came from? Not all chips are the same. The graph might be a good guideline, but it doesn't beat trial and error, and some good old fashioned common sense. :cool:
 
bump your ram voltages up try 2.8v on the ram and it should work especially with the mushkin special, i'm having the same problems and my ram can do 240 but i don't have enough voltages towards the ram thats why i'm getting errors.

well wouldn't excess voltage damage the CPU? I'm using the graph as a guideline but I am not following it directly...gimme a break :rolleyes:

im pretty sure cpus can take any voltage you put through them (within reason) and its just the heat that it generates that damages them
