could not find any place better so here gos......
I had an idea of a comp repair buisness....a traveling comp repair buisness and get one of those trailers that people put there race cars in. And then put all the stuff in there that youll need, then run a power cord into the house that you are at so that you have power and all.......so what ya thinks.......

Have to fix a LOT of computers....those trailers are pretty pricey......as well as the truck to pull it....

But, do you think it would be successful

Do you think YOU would be successful?

First you have to get the equipment. Then you have to advertise. Do you really wanna deal with impatient people with junky homes? My brother works for a TV ratings company. He goes to people's houses to install or remove the monitoring equipment. He says some of the houses are absolutely disgusting. And that usually goes for the homeowners as well.

Dealing with people sucks, but if it's your thing, go ahead and try it.

I dont really see the point with the trailer
the equipment youd need doesnt require that much space
its more like backpack size, (even including some spare parts)
putting a whole repair shop on wheels (with loads of the junk you always aquire) doesnt make any real sense, advanced electronics (rare in a repair shop) like an oscilliscope and variable AC to test a PSU for example, are just overkill and suceptible to damage in the trailer (potholes, vibration, temperature, dust) generally you just determine a part is fubar and replace it, not test it to determine why its fubar

even really highend hardware diagnostic equipment is generally just a card
http://www.uxd.com/phdpci.shtml (boot a dead mobo)
but really what is the point, its dead, just replace it
and youd determine its dead without needing something like that

most of your "fixes" will be OS related (infection, corruption, drivers, ect)
or simple hardware failures (new RAM, PSU, mobo, CPU, ect)

if you want a workspace on wheels, just get a van
then outfit it with a generator and batteries, hunting up an outlet isnt all that professional

an on the spot repair service is very common
but generally you go to the location why disassemble everythibng to haul it out to the truck, when the problem could be the printer is only partially connected?
you risk potential damage by moving the computer

not that I often dont just take it home anyway, alot of the time its simpler to hook it up to my network, and I have my online research and reference resources readilly available
a few examples

like if Im disinfecting a computer, I can lock it down and approve each process that tries to run in order to get the space I need to start killing the infection

I have all my software aps and a secure computer right here, drop in the HDD and scan it till it screams

Geeks On Call already beat ya too the idea anyways.

They drive around in PT Cruisers, and repair computers.

I do the same thing, but if I spend more than an hour at soemone's rat-infested, dog-shit smelling, flea-bitten cat inhabitted home, I bring it home and fix it there.

you need a better class of clients
I take computers from beautiful, clean impressive homes and bring them to my dog infested, smoke filled, hovel for repair :p

(and the typical 6 to 7 dogs does qualify as an infestation :p )

All you need is a normal van or truck like was already mentioned. You then find some form of advertisement to draw in business and you go out to the persons home and give them an estimate for how much its going to cost to fix/upgrade their machine. Then you ither fix it there on the spot or load it up and take it back to your house or place of business.

The only problem is the fact that most local mom and pop stores have all the business cornered and people usually want someone that is qualified with a degree.

If you have an actual business and the education to back it then you could probably make a descent living doing computer repair if the demand was high enough.

or you have PICs of you standing next to your rackmount\modbox\ect :p
and speak geek fluently

starts with friends and family and builds by word of mouth augmented with strategic marketing
