I dont know what the deal is. Whenever I am doing some video encoding, my computer restarts randomly. I just primed the computer last night for 10hrs with no issues. I dont have any idea what the problem could be. If anything would show instability, I thought it would be prime95. My temps are ok, max at 45 with a slightly warm ambient and I believe I have a sufficient psu. Computer is in my sig. My main concern is my core voltage, it appears to be drooping quite a bit, however bios shows the voltage to remain relatively stable. But I would think Prime95 would cause the reboots if it was the core voltage causing the problem. This is what MBM shows me. Any ideas? I am stumped and starting to get aggrevated by these reboots.

Sidenote: I also lowered my FSB by 10mhz and I still got a random reboot.

all software/drivers I use is up to date. I get kind of anal about having out of date material....

Maybe Prime95 was able to push it just far enough to make it unstable when you stopped it. Try running it again and see what happens?

you sure that psu can handle all that stuff? the more powerful it is, the more juice it needs...

I have ran the figures on my psu. I am using appx 462w at max load. I have a 520w PSU from ocz, I should be fine in that area.

I have primed again with no problems. I am at a loss as to what is causing these reboots.
The reboots only occur during the encoding phase of video editing, never before or after.

well, one thing prime doesn't stress is your video card. does your encoding software maybe utilize the GPU for encoding?

well interesting results.... I run memtest @ 220,210 and I get errors in test 5. I dropped the FSB down to 200mhz and now it freezes in memtest #5. I have yet to try encoding anything at 200fsb, I will post the results tomorrow.

as for the video question, I usually have the "video preview" unchecked so I dont use unnecessary cpu cycles on displaying a preview I am not going to watch.

I think I have your answer for you. AFAIK Prime95 does not utilize SSE instructions. Video encoding is one of the things that really uses these extensions. Go back to stock and you should have no problems. Your processor probably can't handle it. Your memory is another problem though :p

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it. I have encoded 2 videos @200mhz fsb so far without a reboot. I had totally forgotten about memtest. I think I now have a valid excuse for an upgrade, my 2500+ will only do 3200+ overclocks

off to find a decent priced 64 3200+ or 3500+ and some G. Skill :D
