hi,
i just moved all my hardware(hdd, video card, sound card, optical drives, ddr2100 ram)
from a athlon 1.4 GHz + asus a7a266 mobo system
to a athlon xp 2100+ + biostar m7vip mobo system that my friend gave me.
i did a windows xp repair install on my harddrive and expected everything to be fine.
however, im experiencing driver issues with my audio adn video.
i havent tried reinstalling my sound card drivers yet, but my video card doesnt seem to work.
i can only boot into safe mode, otherwise the screen goes crazy when i do a normal boot.
ive tried uninstalling/reinstalling catalyst drivers many times and it doesnt seem to help...

i dunno if i explained my situation well enough. feel free to ask questions and provide advice.

my rig:
amd athlon xp 2100+
biostar m7vip
crucial 512mb pc2100
ati radeon 9700pro
soundblaster live 5.1 mp3
ati tv wonder pro(havent tested this at all)

1) ill say this first, reinstall windows.. its the best way.

2) the problem your experiencing is probably part of windows hard coded info.
you would really need to remove the drivers in question, reboot;
make sure that those drivers are removed.. you should be able to log into windows regular mode, but have vga quality video. (get regseeker, once drivers are removed, reboot, and search for any traces of those drives with this utility)
reinstall.

the problem is the way windows handles drivers.
so if you don't want to reinstall, delete every driver that is giving you problems (also check the Event Viewer for errors) and then be sure that you can get into the os the reglar way.

p.s. the 1.4, was a k6? not a k7 (i think the xp line starts with 1600 XP)
because the mobos have different chipsets (although, im guessing that both of them are from Via) your probably will have other issues. its best (in the long run) to reinstall.

good luck.
( reinstalling is best when you switch mobos, there might be other problems that you are not aware of)

Never migrate without a reformat. You're just asking for unsolvable problems.

Anytime the motherboard changes, start from scratch. Lazy way out gets data lost. (You can back up, reformat and be done -- or think you can skip it, not back up, and then lose it all when Windows gets angry and hoses your system).

I agree 100% on this. I never put in a new mobo without planning on a reformat first.
