First off i didnt know where to post this, but ive seen numerous posts about it in this section so i had to ask :O. Ok my question is where i can buy a computer desk that is mahogany and has a fine finish, nothing fancy just a plain desk that has enough room for my HUGE ASS crt monitor and to put my keyboard right in front of it, because i hate the slide out keyboard trays...i searched a bunch of sites and froogle but all i found is the same old shit space age desks with slide out drawers and no space, any ideas?

Build your own! In so many areas of life, doing things yourself usually ends up cheaper.

But you can look at manufactured desks for ideas. As for the shiny mahogany, just talk to a Lowe's or Home Depot person and they can help ya, 'cause shoot, the commericials say anyone can build a treehouse.

The last time I was at OfficeDepot they had the huge-azz desks I think you're talking about. I don't know if they were mahogany or not, but they were definately some sort of wood laminate. :) I would suggest calling your local furniture shops and/or office supply stores, see if they carry what you're looking for. In our area we have a few stores that specialize in oak furniture, I imagine that a store like that would carry desks of some sort.

Good luck.

i hate keyboard trays as well....so i built my own out of oak...it's really nice and simple...didn't take long to build or anything at all...

mahogonay isnt cheap btw..... its one of the more expensive woods out there

But I'll bet you can buy mahogany at a hardware store for cheaper than the finished desk would cost from a manufacturer.

yup definately

Your probably not going to want to get a solid mahogany because of price. But you can still get a cheaper mdf desk that has mahogany veneer. Most internet sites wont carry large desks because there is no decent way to ship them. You might be able to find a desk close to what youre looking for at a buisness store. But check out a furniture store to see if they have something close. You may also need to get one custom made if the dimensions are really that much different than a normal sized desk.

Just make sure you spend at least 10K on your desk. Its the standard around here!

I would say Jerker, I intend to get one for our new apt.

Cheers,

it probably needs to be about 7-8 feet in length and i dont know about the width but i have a fit my viewsonic ps790 on it and its got a pretty large back :(, i suggested to my mom to let me make it and she didnt agree but thats what im probably gonna end up doing

My desk is a 3 foot high, 5' x 3 1/2' wood table. generally just a large desk area. No drawers or anything.

does the job, top kind of looks... "woody" if you know what i mean?
