Hey all,

System:
Iwill DPI533
2x Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz
4x 512MB Corsair XMS3200
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB
Audigy ZS
Adaptec DuoConnect (firewire, usb2)
Promise SATA150TX4 Serial ATA Controller
2x WD 36GB Raptor (OS disk and Programs disk)
2x WD 120GB 7200RPM SATA storage drives
Plextor 708A DVD burner
Samsung 52x CDRW/DVDROM
Antec TruePower 550w PSU

kk - i think that's it - the system is in a nice, slightly modded Lian-Li server case with custom wiring and plenty of fans for great airflow and good air cooling. swiftech mcx603's with 80mm panaflo's on the cpus.

one "problem" i have been noticing with the system is that sometimes, when the system is powered on, it posts right away, and other times, it may take up to 3 minutes before it posts, but it always posts. when it takes longer, the system powers on (drives spool up, fans operate, optical drives power on), but the system just "sits there" until eventually, the mobo beeps and it posts like it should. so, kind of a problem, but not really. don't know if it has anything to do with my now dead comp.

however, the other day, the system was on, and as i was attempting to traverse my bedroom, my foot caught on the end of a surge protector on the floor - this forced the surge protecter to slam into the front, bottom edge of the case fairly hard. shortly after this, i went back to use the system, and it had hard locked - mouse wouldnt move, ctrl alt del wouldnt do anything... totally frozen. i powered it down manually, and upon powering it up, the system would not post. at all - i let it sit for a good 10 minutes after powering it on (drives spool, fans on, etc... still working in that respect) - but no post.

first thing i did was set the jumper to clear the cmos and tried again. this time, the system booted right up. yay. i finished working on what i needed to for the next hour and then left the house to go to class for a few hours. i left the system up and running. when i returned, the system had hard locked again, just like before. however, this time, resetting the cmos did nothing. the system will not post. at all.

i checked the heatsinks - they appear to be as secure as they ever were. ram is seated properly. all 4 hard drives are spooling up without any abnormal sounds, although i think that even if a drive failed, that would not prevent the system from posting?

so, i am quite distraught. had to bust out the old p3 dell for now - i don't have time to tackle the problem until this weekend. i am planning on completely disassembling the system, dusting everything off for good measure, and reassembling the system carefully. don't know if this will do anything, but its worth a shot.

so, my question is - anyone have any idea what i should look for - what might have caused this? this system is my pride and joy. i miss it greatly!

i would take everything apart and put it back together.

one time i banged up my case and it caused the motherboard to lose its grounding.

it would only take 15 minutes and it could fix your problem.

use a keen eye and look for any type of physical or burnt dammage.

wish i could be of more help.
