Comp crashing after installing cpu cooler

I just installed my prolimitech megahalem to cool my i5 and after looking at my core speed on CPU-Z the core speed seems to be fluctuating anywhere from 1.2 then jumps to 2.0 then to 3.0 then goes back down

Then my computer will suddenly crash... its done it twice... once while on youtube... im trying to get a hold of benchmarking software to help me figure out whats going on

so please help me figure out the problem!

It sounds like you may be bending the mother board slightly.

Remove heatsink, carefully reapply thermal paste and then evenly tighten screws in a cross pattern (i.e. like lug nuts).

The clock speed changes are intel's speed stepping, it is normal and a power saving feature.

It sounds like your heatsink is not properly installed. take it off, clean off thermal paste. Reapply thermal paste and remount. Tighten as mentioned before, you want it snug but not overly tight.

Thanks... I would have likely done what you said but I watched this video and did everything this guy did in cell menu and the crashing stopped and the core speed stopped fluctuating.... now im at 3.5 safe and sound!
