Get this, some guy decided to write a book during his daily commute to work…using only his cell phone. Impressive, in an odd sort of way.

Robert Bernocco, an IT professional took advantage of his travel time by writing a 384-page science fiction novel, Compagni di Viaggo (Fellow Travelers), on his Nokia using the phone's T9 typing system.

impressive....one of the few people that actually does something worthwhile on a cell phone

I wonder how long it took him to write the book in that way. It had to take him a while.

Only a few years ago I would have struggled to find both the time and the publisher to enable me to create this book

It seems probably less than a year maybe, two tops?
He said he already had the book written in his head for the most part which is one of the harder parts. Finding the time to sit down and actually write it can be the other half, though this is a great idea if you travel and can write at the same time.

Just writing short stories of your daily trips to work could turn into quite the novel really, inspiration on a ride can be pretty could if you know how to observer people and can slightly twist the story to become more intriguing.

I wonder what makes a guy think "I'm going to write a book with my cellphone!!!" I also wonder how many people he cut off and how many turns he missed by doing this too :D

I have a sneaking suspicion that he takes public transit. :p

I've had people write text to me in what seemed to be novels in length whilst driving... surprisingly they are not dead yet.

"Bernocco's book is currently ranked at 19,720 by sales and can be purchased for $17.38."

Let's all buy a copy and help him recover the costs of buying those extra 10 battery packs he needed :)

Kinda interesting that he wrote a few paragraphs at a time, then transferred to his computer for editing. It would be even more impressive if he wrote the entire thing and somehow saved it on his phone's storage card... but then he probably would have dropped the phone in the toilet ;)

I wonder why he didn't just use a small notebook. Would have been way easier.

And for the Canadian audience. Did you notice the name of the person who created his publishing company? I'll give you a hint. What does Red Hat and Hamilton have in common?
