common thickness for plexiglass case window?

i was wondering what is the common thickness for a peice of plexi-glass (with the intent to use as a case window)?

my boss had some HUGE sheets of it and gave me some stuff, but its kinda thin...

and im not real sure if its actually plexiglass

what is the difference between plexi glass and acrylic (or anything else people normally use)?

Plexiglass is a brand name, acrylic is the proper name for it. Normally i use 1/8" thick on case windows, but sometimes i have used up to 1/4" depending on what i need it for.

hmm, i think the stuff he gave me is like 1/16" :-(

i'll have to measure tomorrow and find out

"Plexi-Glass" is a trademark name for Acrylic. Some like to use Lexan but it is more
expensive and there is no need unless you need your window bullet proof.

My preference is 1/8" thick Crystalite for the window. No need for anything thicker really.

Lexan (trademark of GE plastics) is a polycarbonate.
Plexiglas (trademark of Atoglas), Crystolite, Lucite, Acrylite, Perspex and acrylic are polyacrylate
 
just depends on how your gona fasten it to the panel, are you going to use screws and nuts to hold it in? grommets?

the thicker the glass, the quieter it gets.
