I know you guys probably get tired of these messages but can you comment on my system build. Been out of the system building loop for several years due to kids and budgetting constraints and now trying to design a new system with tax money. I tried to balance performance and price...

Case:LianLi PC7
PS: OCZ ModStream520
MB: DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-DR
CPU: AMD 3500+ Winchester (90nm)
HFS: Arctic Cooling AZCF64
RAM: Corsair 1Gb XMS Low Latency PC3200
VIDEO: MSI GF 6600GT
BootDev: WD 74Gb 10k Raptor SATA
Storage: Seagate 200Gb w/ NCQ
DVD: Sony Dual Layer DRU710A
 
Since the AMD 64 processors are cheap now I would just go with one of those. You will see a big difference. Especially if your gaming on the rig.

He's specified an AMD64, surely.

The build looks good to me. Depending on your requirements, you could consider dropping one of the HDDs and using the cash to upgrade to a 6800GT - this would be better for gaming. If you need the storage, stick with the drives you've specified, though new storage can be added more easily than getting a whole new graphics card...

Setup looks good to me. If your a game player consider switching drives to boot from. Install the games on the Raptor and leave the bigger drive with the OS. Set you page file to the OS drive.
 
I'd probably go with a different choice of DVD burner if you plan on doing a fair amount of DVD stuff, but that's just me. Sony burners (which are usually rebadged LiteOn drives) just don't have the media compatibility that Pioneer or NEC drives do, plus they cost more. Check out CDFreaks or CDRLabs for more reviews on DVD burners.

I'd also consider a sound card if you're picky about audio, but you can always buy that after trying out the onboard.
 
I forgot to put it on but I have an Audigy2 ZS slated to go in it too.

As far as the 10k drive is concerned... I'm not sure I will be going with it anyhow. Its a decent performance gain, but I can probably get by with the Seagate alone.

I hadn't heard of any media compatibility issues with Sony drives and they always seem to get good reviews. I will check out the sites you mentioned. Thanks!
