I may be forced to build a system soon due to stuff being cheap. Appreciate any thoughts on this build - I linked to Newegg on each item even though some of the items won't come from there.

Antec P182 - $59 after MIR last month (it's sitting in the kitchen saying 'build meeee' now.)

CoolerMaster 750w Pro Power - $69 after MIR from Microcenter (on top of the P182 saying 'hey baby I want to be inside you' to the case.)

ABit IP35-E - $59 after MIR (yes, I picked this board because it's cheap)

Q6600 CPU - $199 from Microcenter

OCZ Gold 2x2GB PC6400 memory - $72.99 after MIR

WD Caviar 750GB SATA - $154.99

EVGA 8800GTS 512MB OC - $239 after MIR

Pioneer 20X DVD burnder - $29.99

If I do this, I'd use the brand new 8800GTX from my sig system for the new build and put the 8800GTS into my sig system. I'd have the above system plus the 8800GTX in it, for around $900 after rebates. Seems like a hell of a price for such a system? In fact I could shuffle video cards again, eliminate the 8800GTS from the list here, go back to my old 8800GTS 640mb in sig system, back to 7800GTX in spare parts system and new 8800GTX into new build and wind up around $660 on the new build... How can I NOT build it for that price?!

Probably need to add a good aftermarket HSF because I would like to try and overclock the Q6600 a little. Thoughts there?

Would this build be badly bottlenecked by my poor pitiful "old" (yet brand new) EVGA 8800GTX and no SLI or Crossfire possibility?

How much of a boost in playing games (CoD4, Crysis, Supreme Commander, BioShock) and running Vista would this build give me over my sig system? I do play around with some VMs now and then and I think the extra 2 cores + extra memory would be huge for that stuff vs my sig system? I would at least try to run 64bit Vista.

Cant say how much of an improvement youll see upgrading but I must congratulate you on having the patience and foresight to pick up those things individually and wait for the rebates haha

Buy a 9600GT/8800GS if you plan on putting the 88GTX in your new rig.
And a 250GB HDD for the old one.
When's the last time Coolermaster made good PSUs? Buy a Silverstone/Corsair/Seasonic.
With that money saved, you could pick up a IP35Pro or DFI DK P35T2RS.

And if you're searching for an aftermarket cooler... a TRUltima 90 or a Scythe Ninja.

Well... Now a G0 stepping Q6600, 4GB of AData PC6400 ($75 at Fry's), a CoolerMaster 750w PSU and an Antec P182 are siting in the kitchen. I think I will spring for the IP35-Pro.

If I wasn't leaving town on Tuesday I'd go ahead and order the mobo & heatsink and get this show on the road - but...it will be delayed sadly. All these parts will sit in the kitchen for a few weeks. :(

BTW great idea on the 750gb from sig system into new build - that will happen and a 250GB SATA drive will come off shelf to go into sig system so no cost for a HDD on new build. Zero new cost on video cards because I'm just going to use my original 8800GTS non-G92 in the sig system and move the 8800GTX into the new build.

Damnit...now I really want to build this thing BEFORE I leave town. Damnit. Damnit.

On the bright side, you seem to have money for lots of shiny stuff. And more than one decent computer.

Oh I love that newly opened anti-static bag smell. And the smell of fresh PCB. And other associated smells.
