Comcast just raised yet again the cost of my rental modem to $14 a month. It is time for me to get my own, When I do searches for a wifi 3.1 docsis modem compatible with comcast my eyes start to glass over.

Could I get recommendations from current users in my situation? We do not have alexa and do some streaming for prime video, cbs, etc, no phone.
Checking review pages many of them have old models listed. I just don't know what to choose and hate to walk into BB and be at their mercy.

I've always used the Motorola/Arris modems in the past and had no issues with them, these were strictly modems.
We currently have Cox Gigablast and opted to rent their modem right now since 3.1 modems were close to $200 when I looked a few months ago.

This looks cool, but very expensive,

Modem only

Modem with AC2350, but kinda pricey as well

And a renewed Netgear modem for $115

It seems to be an either or situation. Either you pay big bucks for everything or can't trust a lesser model. Many of the reviews I saw has dropped connections as the con. I play online games and the last thing I need is for a modem to be dropping me. The netgear was the first one I saw and my jaw dropped at the cost.

If you're insistent on an all in one gateway then I'd just keep what you have personally. By the time you've come out ahead with the costs some new hotness will be out anyway. If you're willing to run your own router/AP then just buy the latest ARRIS model and be done with it.

I really wasn't insistent on a all in one gateway. I am just trying to find my way to understand what it is I do need to do what it is I want done. As far as the cost, to me that isn't as important as getting out from under comcast pricing of their modem. The fact they keep raising prices and not updating the equipment rankles me.
I don't want to pay $300 plus for a wifi modem but would consider that much for both a wifi router and 3.1 modem. Two years would repay that and I am ok with it.

i use a motorolla MB8600 and an asus RT-AC1900(only because i got it for 30 bucks due to a pricing mistake by newegg). have had zero issues with the modem on comcast and it has already paid for it's self.

That was a pretty lucky purchase. The MB8600 and that router seem like a good combination.
