Here's what I'm looking to do, not sure if it's possible:

Have it set up so whenever someone calls my cell phone it rings on my cell and on my computer, and I can answer and make calls from both using the same number.

Is it possible to do this, preferably for free?

Google voice will work somewhat like what you want I believe

Porting your # with Google Voice costs $20 and cancels your cell phone service. They have some sort of mobile integration with Sprint but I don't have Sprint. Is my best option making a new # with GV and then changing my mobile # to match it?

you could use your GVoice number on the PC, and the voice app for your phone can be used to make/receive calls on your phone as well with whatever number is on google voice.

*note* this is all off of memory which is quite bad at 1AM after a full shift :D

I would love to know if there's a way to do this too. We recently ditched our land line at home because we hardly used it and seemed to be a waste of $40/month. The only thing that sucks about it is that my wife sometimes doesn't hear her phone ring because it's somewhere else in the house or turned down or something. It would be nice if there was a way that didn't involve a computer too, but I don't see how that would work.

The best thing I can think of is a Bluetooth speaker system or something to keep her phone paired to at home so when her phone rings, it rings through the speakers too. I've been looking at speaker bars for our living room that have BT integrated in them for smart phones, I think something like that would work.

You might just want to get a SIP phone. You could get a google voice number for free, and then use a free hosted pbx like pbxes.org which would allow you to access the google voice number using the SIP phone. Also you wouldn't need a pc and it would be separate from your cell phone. It would essentially be the same as using SIProid on an android phone except you would be using an actual SIP phone instead of an app on your cell phone.

Or an even simpler solution, a google voice ATA. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833617001

The best way is to get a new number with Google Voice, and then have Google Voice forward calls to your cellphone as well as ring your computer.

If you have Google Voice, you can combine it with an Obi110 (~$50) for your regular phones.

Another thing is that if you have Android, you can download Groove IP or Groove IP Lite to enable calls over WiFi using your cellphone.
