Color problem with NEC 2490

I am on my second 2490 because the first one i got had a color shift diagonally across the screen - the majority of the screen is fine but as you go down from the top left to bottom right, there is a yellowish cast. NEC immediately sent me a new one after i called to let them know about this. The 2nd monitor has the same exact issue.

wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or any other inconsistent color issues?

FYI - i sat on with tech support and ran through Color Comp, other settings, etc. Color Comp semi-fixed the issue but limits the brightness so much that i can't get a white even with it all the way up. sort of a washed out grayish tone with Color Comp on.

this monitor costs too much to color shift across the screen. thanks for any info.

yeah, i have been dealing with NEC's tech support. just wondering if anyone else had gotten this monitor and had this problem.

thanks.

you can only contact with NEC, i think LCD monitor is a device that you can not repair

Weird. The H-IPS panel in that monitor is popular because it has virtually no color shifting. Same issue through VGA? If you put up a black screen and turn out the lights, does it look like its an uneven backlight issue?

Scyles,
i haven't tried the VGA hook up, which i will, but really want to use the DVI.

I will try the black screen (what's the best way to do that?) once it's dark in here.

Assuming you're using Windows, set a blank screensaver and hit preview.

thanks, Scyles. Acutally i am on a mac. so setting up a Black file and displaying that as the screen saver is not what i want? i need a blank? not sure how to do that.

On Windows, blank defaults to black so you have the right idea.

Scyles, i set up a black file and set as the desktop.

it too is strange - you can see a bit of yellow cast even on the black, but it is along the bottom and the right side in a bit of an inconsistent way - well, i'm not sure that's how to say it, but it is within the same areas covered by the tint when any other background is up.

also when black, the color shift when changing viewing angle side to side is immediately very severe - reddish to the right, greenish to the left. And when any other BG than black is up, there is virtually no color shift when changing viewing angle side to side.

what does these two things mean?

Well, I haven't a clue. Perhaps if you could take some pictures someone else can tell you what's going on.

I suggested trying VGA to make sure it wasn't a problem with the DVI port or cable. Its either a monitor, video card or cable issue, and since the monitor was replaced already its probably something else. But I'm sure that NEC already went over that mess with you...

I know CRT's can suffer similar issues because of magnetic anomalies, but I'm not sure how LCD's respond to that kind of thing. Its not right next to a subwoofer or anything is it
