I'm having a problem with my cold cathode switch. My computer is locking up when I turn the light off. As soon as I turn it off everything just freezes and I have to restart my computer. I even tried using a different power inverter. At first I thought this had fixed it, but then later on that night when I was going to bed my comp locked up again. The weird thing is, this just started happening the other day. I've had a cathode in my computer for over a year now and there haven't been any problems. Power shouldnt be an issue because I have a Thermaltake silent purepower 560watt with active PFC. Like I said, I've been running this no problem for over a year.
 
check the wiring of the CCFL, there may be some type of short in it. that happened to me once too.
 
yep. Cold Cathode Fluid Light, i think thats what it stands for.
 
well i tried swapping my cathodes out and im still having the same problem. so so far ive tried a different inverter and a different cathode with the same results: it will turn off and on without a problem sometimes but then other times the comp will lock up. i just got home from work and the cathode has been off all night and all day. so i got home and switched it on and off to see if it would lock up and it did. very frustrating.
 
What all do you have going on there sounds like perhaps you have some flakey voltages I would scrutinize the power supply.
 
That shouldn't be able to happen, you have a strong PSU and I can't see how a CCFL could be causing your comp to freeze.

Sounds like the PSU may have been damaged.
 
PSU problem. If it were my guess, the voltages on your PSU are too high.
 
well i really dont think its the power supply, BUT whats all this voltage business? how do i mess with voltages on the power supply? in bios? and if so what should i change it to? keep i n mind that this has never been a problem before. this power supply has been nothing but good to me.
 
Well, it has to be power related. Its not like it could be anything else. You cant change the voltages of your powersupply unless you buy a power supply with adjustable rails (which you dont have). Download a program called everest and post the voltages you see under Computer->Sensor here. I suspect that once you turn the lights off, you're getting a slight spike in power causing you to lock up. That is just my hunch though.

I've had lockups and restarts caused by fans that were going bad. Unplug the cc from the comp for a day or so and check for lockups. If none, replace the cc setup, they're cheap enough nowadays.

man that sucks that the voltages are bad. man does anybody have any suggestions as to better power supplies? i thought this thermaltake wouldnt have problems like that. its weird that im not really having any problems with power and stuff as far as i can tell besides the lights.
