I read an article saying sometimes they blow up for no reason and can completely destroy the insides of your computer.

I can't find the link now though.

Is there truth to this? On the site they actually had pictures of a comp. that's insides had been charred due to a cathode light explosion.

i this that is not true...

hasnt happened to me and i have CCFL off all sorts..used them all, And i never herd of it happening.... i dont see how then could, i have had the light tube itself blow, but there a caseing around it...

While I'm not debating the issue here, that was a really, really, stupid article.

The guy says that Cold Cathodes are unsafe because he has known them to blow up. Fair enough. But saying that just because his "Brand X" Cold Cathode blew up, and his buddie's
"Brand Y" Cold Cathode blew up, that all cathodes are unsafe, is ridiculous. He did not mention what type of cathode it was, and it was probably just a cheap brand. He can't say that they are ALL unsafe just because they are cold cathodes.

Take this as an example. What he is saying would be like me saying, "I bought a black light. When I turned it on, it shorted out and overheated, causing damage to my wall. My friend had the same thing happen to him. Therefor, I know that all black lights are unsafe and you should never use one in your life."

Personally, I'm going to keep using CCFL's. If this guy wants to stop using them, that's fine by me. I think he's an idiot because he can't provide a halfway decent reason as to why I should not use cold cathodes. At the very least he could say, "Personally, I have had bad experiences with THIS brand of cold cathodes."
