just had a couple of questions for you guys.

i played the crap out of cod 4 mp on 360. this is the 2nd fps (halo 3 being the 1rst) i've really gotten into and between the time i spent on those games i really think i've got a grip around how to play a competetive mp fps. i HAVE tinkered with fps's.....q3, q4, ut2004 etc in the past but just never really took the time to get into them.....but now i'm hooked.

i've had css installed on my pc for some time and have always read about how good it is. i've tried it a couple of times and it didn't really pull me in....of course part of this is due to the fact that i was getting pohned but that's besides the point. i got slaughtered when i first started playing cod 4 but the rpg element of the game kept me in it and i ended up with an unhealthy addiction to unlocking weapons and lvl'ing up by raping the nub.

my 360 broke (imagine that) and i can't play cod 4 anymore. i refuse to deal with MS customer support for the 5th time (seriously) and i'm not gonna sink anymore money into that shitty hardware.

which game for the pc is better cod 4 or css.

also do you guys have any suggestions as far as servers that track stats for css? or mods that have rpg elements ala cod 4?

sorry for the rambling mess.....hehe

css, I played cod4 on PS3, it was addicting, for a while, at the end I still came back for css. (after getting nade multiple times in a roll without seeing the enemy...)

i agree, there's just something about pwning someone in css that is always gratifying.

just remember to set your rate in css correctly the first time you play, otherwise it'll feel like your bullets are never hitting the guy:

(~ for console, you will need to enable dev console in options)
rate 30000
cl_cmdrate 100
cl_updaterate 100

don't worry about interp or anything else just yet, those 3 commands alone will increase your accuracy tremendously. have fun :D

CoD4 was a great single-player game. The multi-player felt like a re-hash of Counter-Strike with pretty graphics and way too many grenades. Every map felt like a CS Speed-Ball map (remember those), and it got old quick.

I enjoyed playing the crap out of the single-player side (way too short!), but I used CS as my multiplayer game of choice.

Yes, CSS hit boxes the size of elephants are always a favorite of mine... but really, CoD4 is the best Multiplayer FPS ever created. Just don't join a 48 player TDM because it goes along with what everyone in this thread has said. "Speed-Ball"..."Granade Fest"... but play a game type like Search and Destroy or Domination. CoD's ability to lean with its more fluid movements put Counter Strike to shame. I used to play CS Source competitively, but I never changed my mind that Call of Duty, specially CoD4, was a better series or game. Its also unfair to compare the console version of CoD to the PC version. They are completely different games. I guess if you enjoyed the leveling up of Call of Duty 4 on the console, you would enjoy the PC, but it really isn't a large part of the game. Basically everyone is 55 and has all the same choices as you by the time you get decent at the game.

Want fun on CoD4 (pc) online? Try the "Tactical Realism" mod. VERY customizable. TONS of fun. Less spam, no red tags above an enemy hidden in the grass. No death messages when you kill someone, no lame ass crosshair that lights up when you hit someone behind a wall....no magical radar, no nuclear powered noob toobs.

I love seeing "hard core" CoD4 players get OWNED because they depend so heavily on the lame ass cheats that even hardcore mode has. It's also funny seeing "hard core" players kill their team mates over and over because they can't tell a marine from an Opfor without the gay ass name tag floating in the air.

We LOVE playing CTF and it is GREAT fun for CoD4.....

Check it out....Tactical Realism is incredibly fun and challenging. If you think you are a "hard core" CoD4 player....you really should try it.

I don't know that sounds like to much camping would be going on with that mod.

You dont download it from anywhere...You just join a TRM server and it does the rest for you...Basically the above poster said, its the REAL hardcore version of a HARDCORE server.

To be honest, I'm surprised CSS nubs are still defending it. I CAL'd and used to be one of those 1.6 forever ass's myself. I did enjoy CSS a ton, but to be honest after playing dust for 348730984309 years its fucking boring and retarded. CoD4 has been the ONLY game to come close and now to surpass CS in terms of tacticalness and enjoyment for me

...and this is coming from someone who swore he would never leave CS unless CS2 was created. LOL ahhh those were the days!:D

Ya until you realize that camping in this game is completely different than camping in CS.

On the real hardcore server whoever's turn it is too defend the two bomb site HAVE to defend it. You cannot go on by yourself and 'hunt' for your opponents....you truely have to defend them from all sorts of angles and CAMP the sites like you would IRL if you thought you were going to be attacked.

Its so hard to explain, but lord only knows i hated 'camping' in CS, but with this game it makes it so much more fun when you know you gotta try and outsmart your opponent.

As a couple guys said, it makes you THINK very intelligently about what your opponent is thinking. You cannot kill someone with hip shots, you have to be aimed or "gun up" so there is no "running and gunning-bunny hopping corners-spam fest." It's very tactical (hence the name) and FORCES you to be a better player or you will simply get owned, trying to play the "hard core" way.

You can't jump off of a 2 story building to sneak on someone, you will die. It has very tough fall damage (as real life does) and you have to work a map differently instead of exploiting cheap game errors like ledging and shit...when you jump, your gun goes down, hence you cannot bunny hop corners and spam your opponent.

Things like your claymores kill ANYONE, team included, and there are no indicators or red lines coming out of them, so you have to COMMUNICATE with your teammates so they don't run into your claymore. It also FORCES good team play, since aforementioned run-n-gun spammers get punked like a cheap date.

Try it, just join a server running the mod and it gets a very small add on so you can play it, and it also does not mess up your standard profiles, all your gun lists are saved for each game mod. We have our server running it now, and when we go back to "hard core" it seems rather gay, the silliness that is allowed with physics and such.

CS:S is the devil and i've refused to play it since like 2000. (Lame game IMHO)

CoD4 is quite fun, and as per usual, 360 or PS3 players would get pwnd by us PC Players (vise versa as well). So if you do play it on the PC, don't be discouraged at first. (I have it for the 360 as well and I simply cannot play it)

I've played on a few TRM servers and wonder WTF was going on. I'll have to pay more attention. (More my style of game play anyway.)

I've been pretty annoyed with CoD4 lately, too many spammers, noob tubes, bunny hoppers and pray and sprays.

I have no idea what that's suppose to mean, as long as everyone on the server plays with same equipment I don't think you can "pwn" someone without superior skills.

IMO COD4 is a more run and gun game than css is, the best way to get around claymores is the run over it. Plus there is a very slight penalty switching from running to gun sight, which gives the rusher just about the same chance of killing the "camper" if the "camper" did not see it coming. COD4 is also the a more camp friendly game than css. With UAV jammer, silent steps and a suppressor, player pretty much become invisible if he/she can find a good spot to camp.

Maybe it's just me, CoD4 is not fun anymore after reaching 4th prestige.

Well CSS is really just a minor update to a game made over 8 years ago. The game is lame by today's standards.

No I don't want to argue with any CSS fans who will argue otherwise.

Anyway, Call of Duty 4 is a great MP game but I'm getting worn out on it. The main thing is every server out there now it seems has rules against martyrdom and last stand which I think is bullshit. If it's not that they've got other stupid rules like the "no swearing rule" on a mature rated game. Finally add to that the 12 year old kids that seem to populate a number of the low ping servers.

Also just about every server seems to be "hardcore" and I'm not a huge fan of the mode.

The default game "hard core" is pussy ass llama physics and spam, compared to Tactical Realism mod.....it can be intense! Great fun.

...Just what I said, 360/PS3 player going to PC is going to be terrible compared to how they were on the console.

I was getting to the point, Don't expect to be as good as you are on the 360/ps3.

Back to the topic.

I like TF2 as well, almost more in its natural form. I'll try the CoD4 realism mod tonight.

TheRapture, any specific servers to try?

i have had the pc version since it came out.. was great.. i needa reinstall it since i upgraded to vista a few months ago...

my friends all got ps3 version , and they till me to pick it up for ps3 but im like "dude i already got pc version why would i spend more for ps3?"

I have a ps3 but i dont wanna spend teh cash jus to get it. tho i wouldnt mind so i could play against my friends.. I played it on his ps3 and i got owned real quick online lol

Meh, I played and beat Cod4 single-player when it came out, then I played multi for a while, and it was fun, tried playing regular and hardcore servers, but after I got kind of tired of it I haven't returned since. CS:S always seems to have me come back every couple months. Old as it may be, it's still fun and still always a challenge in the right servers.

Anyways, that Tactical Realism mod sounds like it might be fun. Maybe I'll give it a try and see.

Yeah I have to admit that the particular mod in question sounds interesting.

I like cs more, it gives you the special feeling no other game does.
Only people that get owned or just keep sucking after long time go crying and switching games then saying how "lame" cs is.
Im not saying other games suck but calling cs names is just childish. I seen many guys trying hard to get some skills in cs playing for years and still fail and then switch to some ez game where recoil or reality means nothing and 8hours a day later they feel better cause they actually started to own something.
So all this hate coming to down on css is like seeing fangirls in love with their new dildo.

Im gonna say one thing if you wanna challenge yourself for REAL get cs(what ever version you like) What i love about that game is that even if your are awesome with your aim but suck at strategy or listening(steps, shots, etc.) you will suck. It can be frustating sometimes even after years of gaming. But thats why it has the filling no other game has. You just wont figure out the game as much as you try, its just awesome :)
Getting in on Assault once in a while and killing off whole team can be like winning a lottery add to that all headshots and them not even knowing whats happening is priceless.

If you have less time to play and want more "luck" factor in the game or how hard core gamers call it "noob factor" where new people can get good faster. Get cod4 Im NOT FLAMING the game its awesome and for me is second best online shooter. You dont need to wait sometimes for 2-5minutes for next round because of bad rush or inaccurate playing. quick re spawns makes you more involved but at same time you lose that feeling i was talking about.

sorry for bad grammar. long time no sleep :p

Anyway i dont wanna start arguing with anyone, everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion and i stated mine :)

sorry for bad grammar.
