i am in the processs of moving to a new machine, is all the save data for my cod4 profile under players in the cod4 root folder?
 
I've been copying my profile folder to another hard drive and the other day I cut instead of copying so I went in and pasted it and it worked great.
I have not tried this on a fresh install of the game tho but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
 
I just upgraded my case, I say my case becuase I replaced everything in it. Just to play COD4.....Yikes! Anyway I took my SP/MP profile from my laptop w/ Vista and stuck into the new install on the new pc which has XP.....No Problems Here.
 
I have sold my machine since i backed up the file anyway, so i hope it works.

That is correct.

I got a new HDD and reformatted.

I copied my profile folder from the cod4 folder and pasted it into my fresh installed cod4 game folder.

When I played MP I started at rank 1 and didn't have any of my preset weapons.
But, when I restarted the game I was back to my lovely level 55 with all my weapon presets back.

My game save files were restored as well.

Yep.

I just went into this folder:

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\Players\Profiles

and copy your profile name folder.
Save it.

Install a fresh copy of Cod4.

Before even booting the game. Paste your profile folder in the new C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\Players\Profiles folder.

then boot the game and it will be the exact same

same rank
same graphics settings
same controls
same custom weapon slots
