COD4 Demo Tomorrow

Your rig is neary IDENTICAL to mine. All the way down to the dual Raptors. I just upgraded after nearly two years. May be time for you as well. I'm going to:

Q6600
Abit IP35 Pro
4gb G.Skill memory
8800GTX Superclocked
Corsair 620HX

Yea, I've had this rig for just over 3 years (except the 7900GT...got that a year and a half ago). I don't wanna spend money to upgrade right now seeing as how I just bought a new drum set. But I'm thinking about upgrading some time this winter.

Would probably go with: Q9450, 4GB Ram, Abit IP35 Pro, 9800 GTX, 620HX (Again nearly identical rigs haha)

Yeah, if a new Nvidia card comes out I'll "stepup" to it. Seems like a really popular setup, so there's probably a lot of people saying "Hey, that's just like my new gaming rig, lol.

very cool demo, i really enjoyed it, lots of cool action, the player models look fantastic, very atmospheric!

runs pretty smooth on my system at 1600x1024 on my dell 30''
asus a8n-sli
4400+ X2
4gb g.skill
7800gt

I just downloaded the demo but I'm having some graphical problems. With the specs in my sig, it runs very smooth at 1280x768 and everything looks great except when I try to look down the sights of my gun. When I do, the screen flashes bright and I get a sort of kaleidoscope effect. I just updated my drivers but still no good. I think it's weird that it only messes up when using the sights but maybe I'm missing something.

Very good demo, and nice to see some fellow Marines in a good game. I like the authentic commands, such as "contact right", and such. Makes it more realistic, same goes for the detail to weapons and personal gear.

I'm running an X2 4400, 2x 7900GTOs SLI, 2 gigs ram on an asus a8n sli premium (as you can see all this in sig). Game tends to run like poop.
Naturally, other people's idea of "smooth as butter" is different than mine. I keep CoD 2 locked to 125fps and it never drops below that. There isn't an FPS title that I play regularly that I ever drop below 60fps. I'll decrease graphical settings if need be. I enabled console and did a cg_drawfps 1 and it reported around 35fps when I thought it was looking decent. So I opened fraps and fraps reported about 65 fps at that point. Weird eh? In some more intense battles where there are about 20 player models on the screen at once, that's when it seemed to run the worst. Fraps reported about 25 to 30 fps and the in game fps meter showed about 15. I've yet to try some of the tweaks that I know from cod 2. I imagine some of the commands will work. hunkmegs, etc.
I tried changing resolution and noticed no appreciable difference. I took away shadows and that helped a little. I turned off some other things and that helped a little. But one of the cool things about this game is the way it looks. If you turn off all that jazz, it doesn't look as good.
I also noticed some flickering of player models when I was using night vision.
I'd like to know, for those running this game at high settings with decent framerate on nvidia cards, what video card driver version are you using? I'm not sure the verison I'm using anymore. I haven't changed driver versions in a couple of months and I got those from guru3d.
Also, anyone else, while playing Cod4, forget they weren't actually playing Rainbow 6 Vegas? Game just had that same kinda feel to me. I think it was the guns and the red dot sights...
Having played the MP beta on the 360 for the entire time it was available, I think I might buy this game just or the 360 if I can't get it running decent on my PC. Won't look as good, but the mp demo on the 360 ran smooth as hell. Steady 60 fps.

Does anyone else think the FOV is really weird? I feel like I'm looking through binoculars when playing the demo.

I kept wanting to hit right click for cover

Heck, I though I saw them blind firing at me!

Good demo though.

Demo played well (still has that CoD "feel" to it) and ran well on my ageing rig. Looked fantastic too.

1280x1024, 4xAA

Specs:
Athlon X2 4400+
x1950xt
1.5 gigs no name ram :)

I ran the demo on my system q6600, 2 x 8800 gts 640mb slied, at 2560x1600 with everything on max and it was kinda playable. I hope they optimize it more when it gets released.

I have a shocking system - X1950 Pro, 3500+ and 2GB RAM at 1440x900, yet it runs just about everything like shit. This plays perfectly happily with everything high at that resolution, except for the tank defence part.

It's harder than CoD2. The health regeneration acts slower, and you're damaged faster, so that should soothe a few nerves when it comes to MP. The game itself rocks my face as much as i've always thought it might, and I particularly like how different rifles penetrate materials to different degrees, balanced out with corresponding differences in controllability.

I ran it at 16x10 and IIRC with everything maxed out and it never hitched once for me. X1900XT (OC'd) @ 2.93 opty.

Got the game to load, but wont change the resolution, the game quits and sits there until it says problem with DirectX and says to read the readme. No help there. I think I will just wait to try the full game out eventually if its even good.

Did anybody else experience odd graphical glitches? Sometimes there would be suspended polygonal lines jutting out from surfaces and remaining after gunshots across the map, and others blocks of solid color would get "locked in" to one of your mouselook directions, so that if you looked in that direction it would grow gradually as you moved, and shrink back to nothing when it crossed the vertical axis of the screen.

Is my video card screwing up or are the graphics just buggy? Were there any critical graphics driver updates for this demo?

Besides that it actually ran pretty well on my 7900gt at 1680x1050 with AA turned down to 2x.

The demo runs great for my rig: Q6600, 8800 GTS, 2GB RAM, 1920x1200, 4X AA.

I think this is gonna be an amazing game.

What a fantastic game, it really does have a great next-gen feel to it. Almost felt like I was playing Killzone or something.

Very nice graphics, good gameplay, excellent action.
All the guns sound just a little tinny, but still good.

Demo ran fine on my specs, 1280x1024 4xAA.

Should install Fraps to see my FPS, but it was very playable when I played it.
Can't wait to get the full version...But now its hard to decide what to play online.

Crysis? Unreal? COD 4? Gears of War?

Hard choice D:

Does anyone else think the FOV is really weird? I feel like I'm looking through binoculars when playing the demo.

I agree - it's very unusual, doesn't feel right to me just yet.

They've recycled a lot of the sound effects from Call of Duty 1 and 2 in this game, not very impressed with that. Also, Call of Duty's trademarked "the enemies are in this cardinal direction, behind that obstacle" are ever-present. The graphics look nice. It's fairly easy to die, enemy AI's pretty decent. Best sense of realism for me at the 3rd difficulty level (out of 4).

By the way, is that Kiefer Sutherland I hear doing voice acting as the commanding officer?

I thought it was pretty damn good, and very playable on my system and looks pretty good as well.

I haven't run it with FRAPs but the game is brilliantly fast and smooth with all graphics at maximum, 4x AA and max AF

This is insane, very efficient for the game to run so smoothly maxed out on an older rig such as my own. I'd estimate 30-40 FPS, it never dips down. Call me pleasantly surprised!

Hit ~ to bring down the console and type in cg_drawfps 1 to show your fps. I hovered around 50-60's most of the game with highs in the 120s occasional dips in the low 20s

You need to close xfire.

That's the thing with COD games...you end up playing the demo dozens of times but when you actually get the game, you just go through it and then uninstall. It always happens.

I've played the COD2 desert demo level for more total gameplay hours than the actual full game.

Same issue here,,,so i came here hoping for a fix(no luck so far) i looked for an ini or cfg file....cant find one,so i guess ill keep trying or maybe wait for the game(although im not really inclined to pay 50 bucks for a game if they cant get the demo to run right)

I posted a page or 2 back about how horrible the game was running on my system. Ok I figured out why:
DRIVERS!!!
The drivers I was using were fantastic for a bunch of games. I forget the version. 162.44 maybe. I dunno. 163.44? I dunno...
Anyway, I highly recommend getting the 163.75 nvidia drivers. I tried several differnt driver versions more recent and older than the ones I was using. Wiping the drivers clean each time. When I got to these drivers, results were insane. I was getting nearly 300 fps at certain parts in the game with everything maxxed out at 1680x1050. Game never drops below 60-70fps in the most heated battles.
So for me, it was definitely a driver issue. Working fantastic now.
Should also be noted that these drivers also fixed problems I was having with framerate in Rainbow 6 Vegas and in the UT3 demo.

Odd, that. I could swear i've got CoD, CoD:UO and CoD2 all installed on my hard drive. Must be my eyes playing tricks on me.

I've never played any COD game until 4 because I wasn't really interested in the WW2 setting. Maybe that's one of the reasons COD4 seems so new and refreshing to me.

Wow! I've never played any CoD game before and I just played the demo and that game rocks. I can't believe it how well it ran on my system. Graphics were amazing to me as was the gameplay. I can't wait for this game to come out.

wow.. again..seems like peeps are saying that a lot here about this demo. What a nice surprise! this demo was wayyy better than I thought it would be.. looks / feels and plays extremely well. 1920x1080 with 4xAA and vsync on, all options on plus dynamic lights and detail settings on normal it hummed along very well.. the E3 trailer is pretty kick ass also.

I know i'm a little late, but i finally played it yesterday.

I absolutely love it. Granted in the demo, it seemed like a bit much at times, getting hit from every which way, neing told to do something while trying not to die. Even then, it got my heart racing like i was actually in the game. That tells me, its a good game.

Then there was the graphics, astonishing. I'm running 1680x1050 with everything completely maxed. The first time I played through it, i thought.. this is odd.. didn't become un-playable at all. So i loaded up Fraps and played again. I watched it dip into the 30's a few times, but it still looked fine and remained playable. Odd. The rest of the time it was 60+.

I will definitely be picking this one up. I might even pre-order it!

im in the same boat as above. just played it yesterday, and i am absolutely and totally blown away. when i turned it down to low on my native res (1024x768), it runs like BUTTER. exciting, considering this is the first game in the last 2 years to do that for me on this old (4 years excluding my 3 year old gpu) rig. not only does it run like a dream, but this is easily the best looking game ive run on this rig. its also the epitome of the intense, quasi-realistic, action-first fps as far as i can tell. i can not say enough good things about this game. i cant wait till its release.

man i remember playing cod2 like it was yesterday. One of the few first person shooters games i actually replayed. The whole call of duty series was number one in my book since the first iteration. Odd that before them i was never really interested in ww2 games i kinda of quit on medal of honor allied assault.

Wow, I just played this demo, and it's the first game I've played in a long time that actually runs worth crap. The Crysis Beta was horrible, completely unplayable, and I was nervous when I loaded this up that it would be the same way... Man was I wrong... Did anyone else have a horrible time running Crysis? Any suggestions to make it run better?

crysis ran LIKE shit, even on low. same with bioshock and world in conflict. both ut3 and cod4 run amazing on med settings and looks the buisness.

their hasnt been a game since oblivion that i could run on my ageing AGP system so im glad ut3 and cod4 runs well. i have pre ordered cod4 and i will later get ut3

Game runs sweet on my system, everything maxed 1920X1200 resolution, never goes below 50fps and usually hovers in the 90's to 100's.

Anyway, is there a way to change the rate of fire on the weapons? Like from full auto on the M4 to single shot? So far that is my only gripe, other then that, the game runs and feels great!

It because crysis, bioshock, and world in conflict arn't optimized yet. ;)

ahh makes sence. i wished more developers spent time optimising games because if they do that, they will generate more sales has the game will play well and still look amazing on 2-3year old pc's

im surprised ut3 ran good considering bio ran like shit and used the unreal engine o)

They use Marines in the game, yet the trailer calls them soldiers. Marines are NOT soldiers, thats the army. Rather large screw up.

That demo was kick ass imo. The only bad part was when it ended. It was fairly short, even for a demo. But I'm very excited about this game. I'm especially excited at how well it ran on my gf's 3800+ X2 and 7800GT. Too bad my system is dead :(
