COD2 Problems

Hey everyone, I just recently built another computer and I'm running into troubles with COD2, sometimes I'll be playing and my game will start to artifact and then lockup. I have to then restart the computer completely just to get back into windows.

My specs:
AMD 3700+
2GB PC3200 2x1GB Patriot
eVGA NF4 SLi Motherboard
7800GT
Antec NeoHe 550W

My temps are just fine, my graphics card idles at ~42C and loads at 56C. My CPU is also just fine, I idle around ~33C and load into the mid 40s *C. I've updated all my drivers, and I'm still runing into trouble. I ran COD and it was playing just fine, and I ran the HDR test (the one with the marbles) and everything ran just fine. I tried to DL 3DMark06 but its taking a little too long. Any suggestions? Thanks..

Are you OCing your card at all? Try running some intensive games (ie FEAR, Quake 4) and some benches and see if you artifact in them as well.

try getting Rivatuner and enable the hardware monitor, background recording, log to file, and then game for a while, when you see artifacts start to appear, exit game, go to hardware monitor log, and see what the true load temp was while it was artifacting

I'm not OC'ing at all, everything is completely stock. I'll try to keep playing until I recieve artifacts, but I checked the load temps after like a couple minutes of gameplay, thought that might be enough, but I'll keep trying.

the question is your method of checking load temps.......which can make a huge difference, see this shot of my 3DMark 06 run

as you can see, the temp drops extremely quickly when you stop a game or benchmark or ALT-TAB to the desktop, by the time you have pulled up your Nvidia driver panel, it has dropped alot, so what you are thinking is full load temp for your vid card may not actually be

see here for screenshots on how to enable Rivatuners Hardware monitor to do this yourself

and run rthdribl(the HDR marbles thing) for like 15 minutes straight with Rivatuner recording, and then go back and see what max load temp was
