ok ive spent sometime on google but its not worth a shit so far. tried installing a bink32.dll file but get other errors so i just removed it. the file is in the game folder, but maybe its a bullshit install issue. It installed and ran like cake on my old system, put the new one together and something is not right. Im wondering if it the Vista pos os or something different. Now i can install the game, i install the patch but, it never installs shortcuts nor does it ask me if i want them, the game never shows up on the start programs panel, but its in the activision folder, if i try to click either app link there i get bink32.dll is missing blah blah blah. I dont know what else to do, treyarch says go to activision for help but there is not one helpful post there. There is a bink32.dll in the folder already though so im at a loss at what to do. i just got the pc running Sunday and despite a few quirks that i think are vista related its been fine although feels slow.

autoplay does not wanna run either for some reason but it did at first. got a scratch on the disk hope thats not the issue, but it runs through the install like normal. gonna try it on my friends pc to see if it reads fine.

Usually, this problem is related to downloading PIRATED copies...just go buy the game already! Its an excellent ww2 shooter, and definitely worth the money imo.

BUT if you didnt pirate the game, which im sure you did, but if you didnt....then i cant help ya

My CoD5 would not work at first either, kept getting an error message. My system audio was 192KHz. I dropped it to 48KHz, the game started right up and I haven't had a problem since.

hey man i bought the game i can post a picture if you do not believe me, if it was a cracked version i would only ask on those type of boards, not here.. I did notice the first google hit i got was for a issue with the pirated copy. I had my friend install it and it works on his machine, and it runs on the old machine. but will not work on this one with vista, the other two are xp systems. My other concern is it might be the dvdrom which is not autoplaying at the moment. Only reason i think its possible is because newegg did such a shitty packing job on my parts that when i opened the box my 2 hard drives, dvd rom and ram where sitting in one corner from sliding around in the box. I bought oem versions so the bubble wrap is all that was protecting them in the bouncing box.

since ive not found a solution yet, my friend might go get it so we can play co-op if i ever get it to work, he thinks maybe the scratch is affecting the install for vista,, i dunno but its acting funny. the only thing not listed in the specs is the drives are striped in raid. im gonna see if i can swap the drive, or try a external this dvdrom is sata and the only sata i have but ill plug a ide one in if i have to,

I had to do this. Took me forever to find this fix too.

The game did run just fine though in Windows 7. Didn't have to adjust the audio.

well it might be a hardware issue, i tried my friends external burner and it installed fine, played single and multi just to check, but before the game would not even launch. I will see if there is a firmware update for the dvdrom but im thinking it got knocked out of alignment or something, it installed arma and windows fine. but think i might just rma it instead of troubleshooting past the firmware. i hate to buy something and let it run defective.

still some issues with it, i can launch it from the disc only, but still no shortcuts.......

this is whats there, but it errors when trying to launch from them.

scratch that, i realize what i did wrong, i copied the apps links, instead of telling it to create a shortcut from the driect app itself.. it still makes no sense why there is no icon or listing in the start programs tab, or why it only installs in the folder. if you had not mentionted it again, i might have not retraced what i was doing wrong. thanks for the help. seems like problem solved.
