So I haven't picked up Black Ops or MW2 which is surprising since I bought MW day it came out and played the crap out of it. But where in the story line does Black Ops come in?

If not in the storyline at all MW2 vs. Black Ops whats the difference?

They are unrelated. MW is it's own series, and BlackOps and WaW are stand-alone stories.

MW precedes MW2, neither is directly related to Black Ops. Black Ops is set in the Cold War Era so chronically it would be before MW.

Cod Blops takes place in the 1960s. It's part of the "historical" CoD storyline, which goes CoD, CoD2, CoD3, CoD5:WoW and CoD7:Black Ops.

CoD4:MW, CoD6:MW2 and CoD8:MW3 are set in present times (modern day), and are a separate storyline from the historicals. You could say the historicals are prequels to the moderns if you want to think about it like that.

Gotcha, I have the first or one of the first COD's couldn't really get into it much but loved MW. It seems like a lot of people are really into Black OPs. Which has the bigger amount of people playing them online for PC?

Black ops is a very fun game but is completely 1 dimensional. assualt rifles and smg's are the only way to go. MW2 is very fun but if you have a problem with dedicated servers (like most pc users) than forget about it. to each of thier own, if you like the cod series than you will probably like either one. The Zombie mode on BO is very addicting and probably the only thing that keeps me coming back to it.

The other people are right about the story line, BO is independet from the rest of the series.

I can't believe both of these games are still $60 I remember a year or two ago with that one guy from the industry coming out saying games are too expensive but this is nuts. The xbox and ps3 versions are cheap in comparison. Doesn't make sense when they can sell them on steam and not even have to pay for packaging.

Remember that the CoD series are now alternate between 2 different studios making them.

CoD1 and CoD2 the original PC games were made by Infinity Ward
Then CoD3 was made by Treyarch, from then on it alternates between the 2
CoD4 (MW) Infinity Ward
CoD5 (WaW) Treyarch
CoD6 (MW2) Infinity Ward
CoD7 (Black Ops) Treyarch
CoD8 (MW3) Infinity Ward

Basically after CoD1 and 2, Infinity Ward moved to the modern warfare series and passed off the historical versions to Treyarch

So I looked up some footage of Black OPs and the map was Havana I was like uhh....... This is Modern Warfare's Invasion. One of my favorite maps. So I even looked it up seems like it. http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Havana Is Black OPs just Modern Warfare 1.5? Kinda surprised that MLG has Black OPS instead of MW2

They reuse old maps all the time. There is a map in CoD2 that is the exact same as Chinatown in MW. Now that one was the most obvious, but I bet the other maps are also the same concept just with different textures and buildings, maybe 1 or 2 placed in different spots.

MW2, well you missed its good times. Now there aren't many players left. For about a year(till Black shit came out) you would find games within seconds, now it takes a few mins. Also, most of the newer and better gametypes(Barebones, no killstreaks) are usually empty due to not a lot of players.

Black Ops is just boring. I honestly can't sit playing that for more than 2 hours. And if you say its because I suck, well my K/D is 2.3 or something.

I would definitely recommend MW2 over Black Ops, especially since you siad you enjoyed CoD 4: MW. The singleplayer campaign is a continuation of the first Modern Warfare, and it is great IMO. I still play the multiplayer on the PC and I find it to be superior to Black Ops, having tried both. (As a side note, Black Ops' storyline is slightly connected to WaW, insofar as some of the characters overlap.)

Somebody mentioned earlier that numbers for PC MW2 dropped off after BO came out, but MW2 has been steadily gaining back players (myself included) to the point where it is now surpassing Ops in number of players online. If you stick to the more popular gametypes (like TDM), finding a game shouldn't be much of an issue. If you are on the fence about which one to buy, I would say MW2 hands down. Coming from Infinity Ward rather than Treyarch makes a big difference in the quality of the game if you ask me.

So I see that MW is on steam, is there a way to add it to my account? I tried the add game thing where you type in a games activation code but it didn't work.

if you played cod4 a lot you should avoid mw2/blops at all costs. it will only serve to disappoint you.

I think they have unofficial dedicated servers for MW2 now. Haven't given it a shot yet but it sounds awesome.

I've had fun with MW, MW2, and BO...I think they're all good especially with cookies.

MW isn't accepted on Steam if you buy it elsewhere, I think:

(take XX's out for address to work)

Dunno if the webpage is entirely accurate, though.

same. I've enjoyed them all in their own right. CoD:WaW more than the others. Also, even though, not in this thread, but others complaining about them coming out with a new cod every year. I just think of it like a sports game. :p every year a new madden comes out, but that doesn't stop me from buying it.

I do agree that the prices for the older games need to drop. I want to buy them on steam, but refuse to until they do drop!

on a side note, cod4:mw will forever remain the best out of the series !!

Actually, Infinity Ward is not developing Modern Warfare 3. Sledgehammer Games is working on the single player while Raven Studios works on the multiplayer. Basically Activision is just using the Infinity Ward name.

MLG had MW2 for Pro Circuit Online. The reason why they used BlackOps instead of MW2 because BlackOps have a better LAN Lobby system w/o using XBL Profiles [all classes unlocked on LAN], while MW2 needs to be connected to XBL.

Either way, both companies failed HARD for creating a inferior "LAN Lobby" system. I mean, Treyarch did a decent job now, but it's not great compared to let's say Halo series.
