Hello [H]ardForum,

Once again I climb the mountain to ask of the binary sages. What I am trying to achieve is a secure and stable wireless and wired network without using equipment so graciously provided by Verizon Fios.

The house in question is wired for coax, not Ethernet. Back when we had cable internet, all I needed to do was plug in my own modem/router and carry on.

With Verizon Fios, there is an ONT box outside the house. It is my understanding that the modem/router Verizon charges me for 10 ways from Sunday, is acting as a bridge among other things. Were I to remove it and place my own router in its place, there would be no internet connectivity without a MoCA bridge.

If this is correct, which MoCA bridge should I consider purchasing? Also, do I need a POE filter or any other doodads to get this up and stumbling?

Thanks for reading, and responding, you rule.

Some of the ONT boxes have an Ethernet port in them, that if you connect directly to, you'll have internet connectivity.

MoCA won't work for you unless the ONT box is acting as a MoCA send unit. In that case, any MoCA unit should work to convert to Ethernet.

Since we don't have Verizon FIOS in my area, I can't say with any specifics on how your ONT box would be configured, but I hope these tips help

With my limited experience with MoCA devices, that unit should work, provided your ONT is using MoCA as well. The only problem you may run into, is MoCA can be secured, and if security is set on the MoCA at the ONT box, you'd have to access it to find the security information to get your purchased adapter to work.

As far as confirming if your ONT is using MoCA for the Internet signal, that'd have to be up to the specific hardware capabilities, and if it was configured by Verizon to use it. Sorry I can't be more help on this.
