I recently acquired a Zalman CNPS9500 AM2. I've been using an XP-90 on my Asus A8V Deluxe (939). After looking at the installation movie from Zalman's site and looking at the included parts I don't know if it will sit securely on the mobo without screws. I have the stock mobo bracket. Can anyone help me with a more in depth install guide?

Thanks in advance.

well first, it sounds like you have an AM2 cooler for a 939 socket...

i don't think there's a huge difference in the heatsink BUT you need to attain the retaining clip for the 939 that includes screw holes.

you have this clip (the metal piece on the bottom):

and you need this clip (on the right w/ holes):

*edit:
better picture of the mounting clip you need:

Ok, so all I need is the clip. If I have the stock bracket no need to get another one.

Edit* ok without going out and buying another cooler, where can i get just that clip?

it's 939 compatible in the fact that yes - it will cool it - and it's essentially the same HSF as the cnps 9500 LED, BUT - it has different mounting hardware.

yes - you can keep the stock bracket (black square thingy) and as far as JUST the clip... don't know.

maybe someone who bought it for their pentium system has the 939 clip lying around for sale... (for sale thread)

Well after a long and painful night, I managed to get the cooler on there. Wow what a difference this cooler makes compared to my old XP-90. Drop 10 degrees right off the bat. The few problems i am experiencing is a tiny squeak and a little rattle in the case. Probably because I’m running the fan full 12v. I didn't use the fanmate, will probably need to do that. Any suggestions for those two little irritations

Is the motherboard properly secured, along with the retetntion bracket.

You could either use the fan mate or is the zalmans fan compatiable with the cpu fan header? That way your system can control the fan speed depending on temps.

Both Mobo and bracket are secured, the bracket was screwed on as tight as possible and the mobo has always been.
