I've been hunting around to see if anyone is insane enough to run a CNPS7000-Cu with a Q6600 and it looks like I'm the only one.

Load temps are at 80C at 3.0GHz/1.325V.

It this just too much for the old trooper?

although it's all copper, i'd personally not run that cpu on anything less than a 7700 series HSF. I'd lean more towards a 9500/9700/Tuniq Tower/something heatpiped

I would too, but it's a Lian Li V800-B, so it's gotta be "low profile ish".

I'm gonna switch CPUs so that my sig reflects what I've got. The 7000 will handle an e4300 no problem, and the watercooling setup that the e4300 is under now will handle a quad no problem.

now why on earth would you have a cheap air cooler a quad core, and water cooling on a cheap processor?

The quad core is brand new, and is in a box that doesn't have room for watercooling. I've had the e4300 under water for 7 months.

Due to the cnps7000 not being able to handle the quadcore, I have to a) put it under water now b) get a full coverage block for my 7950GT c) swap the motherboards, hard drives, etc d) sell the old video card and full coverage block on it from the watercooler system.

Huge pain in the ass. That's the reasoning.

Did a remount just for shits and giggles.. the IHS is *incredibly* concave, and that gave me a scare.

Mount #3, and I'm at 70C load at 3.2. This is approaching acceptable for the short term.

Have you lapped it at all?

Give it a go, your tempartures will definitely improve.

I reccomend:

Removing all nickle with 400 grit or Below Sand papers, from there you can use any grit sand paper between 800 and 2000 in numeric order to sand the surface and finish witht he finest sandpaper you can find. Usually 2500 or 2000 Grit..
