CM Stacker + Nocona?

I was looking at the FAQ on Coolermaster's site for the Stacker and found this:

Q: Does CM Stacker support Dual Xeon processors?
A: CM stacker supports all Xeon Processor except Nocona. It supports Dual Opteron. Future chassis will have support for both.

I guess I don't understand what the case has to do with the processor. The MB I will be getting is Dual nocona but ATX (Iwill DN800). Anyone have any idea?

I have a CM Stacker, and don't see you having trouble if the Nocona board sticks to the ATX form factor.

If it's E-ATX, I don't know how it would differ that much from ATX to make a difference in fitting within the case.

Edit: I see where you may think you'll run into some trouble with the SLI on the back panel. Ask around in the case modding forum, I believe there's a CM Stacker thread. Look for someone else that has a SLI setup before you buy.
 
Thanks Doc, but if there is an SLI conflict wouldn't that mean there would have to be SLI compliant cases?

I'll take a look at the other forums again and see if I can find something.
 
From a Google for "CM Stacker nocona" I found a user 'Audio' over at hardwarezone.com forums that has a SuperMicro X6DA8-G2 (E-ATX board, the E stands for extended) in a stacker. Maybe register over there and shoot him a few questions.

Don't worry about this unless it's a "official" Intel board and a nocona ready case. The nocona's heat sink is supposed to mount "through" the motherboard and into the motherboard tray, so that the weight is not supported by the motherboard. This means that the motherboard co would have to put the cpu socket exactly where Intel wants it, And the case co would have screw holes tappd in the motherboard tray for the heat sink mounts. They rarley do this. I would check to make sure how the motherboard manufacture set up the heatsink retainer / mounting to make sure, but most of the time you shouldn't have to worry about this.

Huh. Learn something new every day. I guess I could takeoff the side of my case and see if the holes are there for the standoffs. probably not, but worth a shot noneltheless. I got a s---load of extra standoffs and was curious what they were for. Now I know.
