Getting sick and tired of typing on my Mac laptop KB at work so I finally ordered a CM QuickFire Red switch for work. I have a Razor BWU at home so we'll see how this keyboard stacks up against it! :D

Still debating if I want to get o-rings just in case....:D
 
Definitely a clacky keyboard, I love mine, fits perfectly gives me plenty of room and the keys feel great. I also have the Blues and very clicky but I found myself not to be a fan of the blues, too sensitive.
 
I'm loving the Blues...sometimes I feel they aren't exactly as sensitive as they need to be! :-p

Either way, I did the o-ring mod on mine and its like 100x better...quieter, better key feel, and a SLIGHTLY shorter key travel...once I got used to it I'm typing much better!

Can't wait to hear what you think of it. I have a BW at home, and have been tempted to try something else. This was my first mechanical since the IBM keyboards of my youth, and I have been extremely happy with it.
 
Hmm was debating this keyboard myself. Went to Frys and tested them out, I actually preferred the the Cherry Blues, it was actually quite addicting typing on the clicky blues. =)

I think I need to get myself a mechanical keyboard soon
 
I have one here myself I used O-Rings, feels so much faster then I type and the noise is dampened also. It's expensive for o rings.......
 
i ordered a coolermaster quick fire rapid with brown mx switches and its fucking awesome !!!
love this keyboard !!! I really like the brown switches.
 
the browns feel alot like the blues but with out the "clicky" sound
 
The blues were too sensitive for me, I tend to lay my fingers lightly on the keys when gaming which works fine on red but on blues it causes me to accidentally press the key.
 
Got my QF reds in and so far it's fantastic. Definitely a different feel than blues. I have o-rings on my blues and I'm debating whether I will put them on my CM QF.

I love that it's more or less plug and play. No software, no bullshit. Some people said the branding was a little outlandish but it seems reasonable to me. Not too flashy and i use it at work and nobody can tell that it's originally marketed as a gaming keyboard so that's great.

Other than that i Just need to work on not bottoming out but sometimes in the moment I just love clacking away at it in my cubicle :)

On it vs my Razor BWU, I believe the QF is built better than the Razor BWU in quality but just slightly. Regarding the switches, I think both are fine really. I bought the BWU because it was on sale, and it had backlit keys, and the macroing function of the keyboard was fairly useful when I was a hardcore MMO gamer.

I love the QF now and I want to replace my BWU with it but that'd probably mean buying another as I lug my CM QF with me to work everyday (love that it's TKL so it fits easily in my laptop bag). and it's just a PITA to plug the QF back into the back of my desktop.

My only real gripe with the QF is the damn USB cable and the cable holding channels suck shit. Always comes lose but nothing a little tape can't fix ;) And I'm fairly OCD about things like that so it may not matter to most.

TL;DR: Definitely recommend it as a TKL mech keyboard that's easy on the wallet!

yep, that's what I've been telling people that want to run out a spend an extra $70 just because it's a "Filco", build quality is much better than Filco too boot, way too much body flex lately in the last 2 I've owned

This is confusing to me. Reds have the lowest actuation force required by any cherry mx switch that I know of.
Blue: click, Actuation Force 50cN, Peak Force 60cN
Brown: soft tactile (ergonomic), Actuation Force 45cN, Peak Force 55cN

I think that it's possible that you are having trouble with the difference between the reset point and the operation point on the cherry mx blue switches.
 
Quick update,

While the mechanical feel of the QF is good, I've noticed that the finish is already starting to wear. Then again I am lugging it around between my office and home but it could still be a point of concern for some.

It's the click before the press. Kind of like how rubber membrane keys aren't linear but rather they only have 2 positions, up and down, you can't go half way. Same with me and the blues, if I lay my fingers on the keys, the blues tend to collapse easily causing a key press. With reds I can rest my finger tips on them without a problem. Blues for me have a tendancy to collapse at the slightest amount of pressure, there's no half way point on blues and reds don't activate until you get more than half way down.

I actually bought the same keyboard as you at first and after a week realized I wanted greater quality. I returned it to amazon and now I am using a Filco Ninja Cherry MX red, they just flooded the amazon market with them, this keyboard is twice the cost but three times as good.

Got exactly the same keyboard, switched over from browns.

So far so good, had it for about a month now. It's great for gaming although I do tend to miss the tactile bump on browns a little during long typing periods. I'm mostly used to reds for typing now though since I'm starting to bottom out the keys more anyway.

I'd say they are both the same in feel. Build quality the Filco probably has an advantage as the keys won't wear out and it doesn't have that soft touch rubber that starts to fade after awhile (I love the soft touch though). But I couldn't justify spending $60 over my QF red for one. If I was already looking at that price range I would go for a fully custom WASD keyboard.
 
thanks doods - I'm guessing the build quality is the same for the larger models?
 
got the same board recently with some custom keycaps (hate the stock ones) it is a good board. i like that it has media keys, which is the main reason i picked this board over others. the red backing was also a nice touch. but damn those logos.... why with the annoying logos!?
 
I know I may come off as spamming the M&KB forums but I just wanted to post another update with pics. I said I was having issues with the finish so I sent a ping off to CM support with these pics.

They immediately assumed I had subjected the KB to water damage or liquid damage (which I assure you hasn't happened. It sits in an AC, 65 degree cubicle all day) which I found kind of disappointing and that they had to contact the Product Manager to see if an RMA would be approved because they've never seen this kind of wear. Strangely enough, they said they've only experienced key caps wearing out which I haven't had any issues with since I ordered this in June, 2012.

KB still works fine and is great. It's just a little annoying to have on my desk and people always asking me what's up with the weird "look"
 
It looks like the protective coating is wearing off; it doesn't normally happen with a stationary keyboard, but I can understand how it would if you move it around a lot. You haven't been wiping it down with any type of solvent based cleaner, have you? This is the case in which you normally see the protective coating getting eaten up like that very quickly.

Since the keyboard travels a lot, have you considered buying an aftermarket casing? Any Filco TKL aftermarket case should fit and there are a few out there. I wouldn't expect them to be very cheap, but a good aluminum/metal case would be very durable for travel (even double as a weapon/shield!).

Nope haven't cleaned it with anything yet. Haven't even dusted it with an air-can.

I moving it (aka putting it into my bag and taking it out) every day might have taken a toll on it but that's still kinda crappy if it's being put into a bag and moved every day. This is the bag it goes into http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,cases&pid=leo_tkb001

/\ lucky. My co workers would complain within 10 minutes. I brought my Grados to work one day, didnt last more than an hour someone was like, can you leave those at home tomorrow? ahhaha
