I just received an N520 which will find a new home in my Windows Home Server box on top of a Q9400. (This is my daily desktop PC, which will be converted over when I get my i7-920 next month) My WHS is presently running on an evga 680i with a 3.0GHz P4. The cooler is the one that came with my Q9400 and is one noisy SOB. The fan speed runs at 100% and the CPU hovers around 57 degrees.

So, I unbox the N520 and the first thing I notice are four holes int he fan frame, in the positions where you would normally have LEDs. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to add LEDs to the fan frame and get everything set up. Would I be going after 5mm, 3mm LEDs or some other size? If I'm running eight 1.5v LEDs to a 12v circuit, (1.5x8=12) would I still need to have a resistor in the loop? I'm not sure how all of that works.
