Well im in the market for this case and also needed a psu and was wondering should i spend the extra money on getting a modular psu or can this case handle it?
 
depends on the psu. typically most psus will work for this case, but some don't have a long enough 8-pin connector. nothing an 8-pin extender can't fix, which is what i did. not sure yet if i had to really sacrifce my clean power using it, but i really didn't want to get a new psu.

now if you are asking whether it can handle extra cables, then yes would be the answer to that.
 
I'm using an Enermax NoiseTaker in my CM690. The ATX and ATX12V connectors are ~20" in length and I did not need an extension. The ATX12V lead is routed behind and over the top of the motherboard tray and connects to my ASUS P5K-E/WiFi AP with a bit of slack. The ATX12V connector is right at the top edge of the board. If the connector is placed lower down on your board you may very well need an extension.
