Cloning Windows dynamic disk

Setup is 2x SATA HDs in RAID1 via Win7 dynamic disk. 1 drive is failing, so we're swapping to 1x SSD.

I usually clone with Acronis boot CD (especially when going to a smaller drive like this) but have experience with Clonezilla & dd. What's the recommended tool in this case?

Should I break the RAID before shutting Windows down?

Anything else to look out for?
 
This was a PITA. Turns out that the PC was upgraded to Win10 before I started the swap. No idea if that made it more complicated, but my gut says not.

Acronis (I'm still on 2014, FWIW.) won't clone DDs. It is able to backup from DD, then restore to basic., but I had some issues 1st try. TI first displayed an error about restoring to a smaller disk, then seemed to restore okay. However, Win10 had frozen video after booting, though the system was running fine. I got into safe mode (worked normally), uninstalled the GPU, & rebooted to the same results. Probably not fair to blame TI for this...

I briefly played with latest EaseUS Todo Free after seeing some recommendations for it. Not too impressive IMO. While there's a cloning option, it doesn't let you select an entire disk - only individual partitions - at once. Perhaps I'm using it wrong.

Best approach was to image with Acronis, scratch install Windows on clean SSD, then restore only the OS partition over the fresh installation. This results in no size error on restore, a valid basic disk, correct boot configuration, etc.
