I have a Lenovo Yoga 11s Haswell I5 convertible which I just upgraded to 8GB ram. Now I am getting a Crucial M500 480GB msata ssd. I have a Sabrent ec-hdd2 dock that supports cloning. I have run into glitches where it doesn't want to clone two of my older ssds (Jmicron Knigston 128 and 64 gb no trim support). I am hoping that the adaptors https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007PPZ2I8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 will work going from a 128GB samsung to the crucial.
In event that the hardware cloning fails what is the best and easiest free cloning software?
another bit of info both KIngston ssds that are Jmicron based work fine in win 7 but are not recognized in win 8 I find that odd....

Meh. Maybe back in the day hardware cloning solutions made more sense, but I think software has come a long way since to make it more trouble than it's worth. IT teams could always make use of them, but it's much easier to pick up an external USB HDD and plug it in.

In that case I'd recommend Macrium Reflect Free. Does cloning and full image backups better than any other I've used out the gate with the price tag of $0.
