does the clock speed on ati x850 series get clock down if it is too hot? how do i stop that, can anyone help?

It does that for a reason. You need better cooling. Also, it downclocks when your in 2d mode, just in case you might not of known that.

They do not downclock as far as I know, at least mine doesn't according to ATitool. They shut down or lock-up when you reach the critical thermal limits. Something like 100°C+. I dunno for sure cause I've never had those kind of temps. If your card is overheating you need to get a new cooler for it. Like the Zalman or ATi silencer. That will kill the heat that's killing your gaming.

i don't know if overheating is the problem. all i know is i get 4000 + - 3dmarks, i once got 6200! but now all i get is below 4000, it could be a heat related problem or display driver, it's not an inf driver problem, i install it before and after, same score. i think it's a bios problem, anyone how to deal with this, any suggestions?

Sounds like a driver problem? Uninstall the drivers, reboot into safe mode and use driver cleaner to remove all traces of it, reboot into windows...download the latest drivers and install those, then reboot again (all just to be 'safe'). Then run the benchmark and see what you come up with.

I had to do that tonight because 3DMark05 was magically losing 1,000 marks on my new GTX, and even after fixing the bus speed it was still acting retarded...so after doing a completely clean and proper driver uninstall/install, problem was solved.

thanks. congratulations on the gtx. i couldn't afford one so i got the x850xtpe, gtx is twice faster than my x850xtpe, congrats.

i'll do that now.

Maybe the way your card is currently running yes lol but the gtx is not twice as fast as a normally running x850xtpe. Maybe 1½ times faster. Maybe.

You can turn off throttling and force performance 3d using RivaTuner on Nvidia cards. :)

i did that tsuehpsyde, no answer, same problem. does it really matter if my 3dmark score is this low (below 4000), will the score affect my games performance?
