client-core communications error?

ok so i just finished my first WU on the SMP client, but something is clearly wrong trying to obtain a second WU.

everything appears to be running correctly, but then i get

completed 0 out of 500000 steps <0%>
Gromacs cannot continue further.
Going to send back what have done -- stepstotalg=500000
work fraction=-1.#IND steps=500000
corestatus= c0000005 <-1073741819>
client-core communication error: ERROR 0xc0000005
deleting current work unit & continuing...

i am now on attempt #6 to get work failed, and no other work to do. waiting before retry.

what does this mean and why is it happening?
 
means the servers screwed up.. just give it a bit it will clear up.. most likely the WU you got didnt run because it never finished downloading the whole WU before the server crapped out..
 
nope dont think so.. i was having the same problem earlier too about 10 tries til i finally got a WU and the one i returned took almost 40 minutes to upload back to the result server..

if all else fails and it doesnt get a WU in the next 10-20 minutes you can try restarting the client..
 
finally got a WU. something else strange though, hfm.net was reading 4kppd on a WU that took me 12 hours and i only got 481 points on completion. i should have got around 2k no?

HFM.net PpD totals include bonus points calculation but you aren't eligible for bonus points until you've completed 10 WUs against your passkey. So for now you are limited to the standard points value for the WU. This requirement is kind of like a benchmark mechanism to make sure your machine is capable of returning the units in time.
 
oh wow. didnt realize the bonus points were worth more than the regular points. ok thanks.
