I'm at the final step of ordering a Dell 2005FPW, all I need to do now is to click that little "submit order" button in the corner. Honestly I never thought I'd actually consider anything from Dell at all since I always thought they had low quality products, but when a very respectable hardware forum full of enthusiasts all seem to love their LCD monitors, it's gotta mean that they are pretty good. I may be biased but certainly not stupid.

Time to cli........................

Any last-minute warnings from anyone? :D

EDIT: Oh I forgot, I'm running a P4 3.4 w/ ATI X800 XT PE, upgrading from a 19" Sony Trinitron CRT. I play FPS, racing and World of Warcraft. :D

I got a bad one for my first one. Bad backlighting. Through email I talked to them and they sent me a replacement overnight. Much better. I'm happy now. Dell's support was part of the reason I took the risk in the first place. Dell and newegg have earned my trust. I've had successful and satisfying returns/exhanges with both.

Thank you for ordering a Dell product. You are a most welcome customer. Should you have any problems with your monitor, please be aware that I speak in form letters because I do not understand what you are saying. If you ask me to do something on your behalf please be aware, welcome customer, that I will do what I think is best for you dear customer because I do not understand what you are saying. Thank you most generously for ordering a Dell product. Now may I ask you how satisfied you are with my service. Please rate my performance from one to ten on these criteria, 1)............

My real customer service experience with Dell:

My email: My monitor has backlight bleeding. Unacceptable. Here's a pic.

couple hours later...

Dell: I'm sorry about the failing monitor. I have submitted a request to replace your monitor.

I get the monitor overnight on Fedex. Perfect. But yeah, it's still trendy to pick on them.

My experience: I see a minor imperfection with my monitor, request a replacement, the replacement they send me is obviously used and something somebody had previously returned, It was made in febuary (last one was from april) had 5 dead pixels on white, finger prints on the screen ect, sent back and asked for a new replacement.

Next replacement, almost too good to be true, no dead pixels, made in april, doesn't look used, perfect I thought... That is, until I looked at the screen under a fully black screen, There was a huge white splotch of backlight shining through. Boxed up and sent off.

I will not be purchasing more Dell products for my business or myself and I will certainly not recommend them to family and friends. With the cheap prices, in the end you're paying for lack of quality and terrible customer support. I realize I am just one person and that my opinion may not sway anyone from purchasing a Dell product but that's just it. I'm just an average person and they sent me three defective monitors (one obviously a throwaway monitor sombody else didn't want). Their practice is to obviously send people throwaway monitors, if they request a replacement, until they finally give in or give up. They've just lost my business and the business of all my friends and associates, in the end it probably doesn't matter because money talks and people will pay less for lack of quality and terrible service because of ignorance, I know I made that mistake...

Seems like it's really a gamble when purchasing Dell products, if luck runs high it'll be the sweetest deal. I'm fully expecting the worst right now, but no matter what, it's worth a shot.

That's why I paid a bit more for the same panel in a Viewsonic case, instead of the Dell 1600x1200 20.1" monitor.

My spoof of them is not 'trendy' as you put it. I had to return two 2001fps and they have the worst customer service I've ever experienced and by a wide margin. They tried to charge me a restocking fee after I returned the second monitor within it's return period. They sent two UPS to two different addresses to pick up my one monitor. They respond to you with prewritten form letter responses even when you speak directly to them. They send UPSs people to my home address when I tell them *repeatedly* not to do that (they need to come to my work address). They don't understand english well. I can go on. They are truely pathetic.

I was really keen on the 2005 but I've been put off by all the problems people have apparently encountered. I can get a 20" ACD for £50 cheaper than the 2005 through my work. However, I've been reading on some of the Apple forums that some people's 20" ACDs have failed on them within two years of ownership. Now they're stuck with a monitor that won't work and thier 1 year warantty has expired. Anyone had any experience with with this? Any 2005 owners who got good models first time round?

The 2405 is a little out of my price range. Dell 2005 or 20" ACD (for £50 less). Any thoughts?

I'm happy with my 2005. It's got some backlight bleeding in the lower left corner, but it's really not noticeable unless I'm specifically looking for it. The other one I got has a fair amount of bleeding in the lower left and upper right corners, but my girlfriend says it doesn't bother her, so I didn't bother trying to return it. I still might, though, just because it annoys me. Sounds to me like you're out of the US, so the possible time to return it even if it doesn't cost you anything might want to factor into your decision as well.
